Vodien hosting review 2024: diverse hosting options at premium costs

Vodien is a promising web hosting solution that can accommodate businesses of different sizes, especially if you’re based in the Asia-Pacific region. You can get Windows and Linux hosting, shared hosting, WordPress hosting, dedicated server hosting, and more with Vodien – all while taking advantage of its robust customer support and unlimited bandwidth.

I recommend this service if you want to prioritize scalability for your website or blog. However, if you run a website intended for low traffic, Vodien’s unlimited bandwidth can be overkill, especially since there are more cost-effective providers.

In this article, I dive deeper into Vodien’s features and examine how its pricing plans compare to other popular hosting providers. To see if this hosting provider fits your needs, keep reading.

Vodien pros and cons

Vodien pricing and plans

Vodien is far from the most affordable web hosting provider available, but it could still be a good fit for your website depending on the plan you get.

Web hosting pricing and plans

When it comes to web hosting, you can choose between Linux hosting, Windows hosting, WordPress hosting, and business hosting. Each one has its own set of pricing plans, providing scalability for when you grow your website network.

Here’s an overview of the cheapest plans for each type of web hosting:

PlanPriceDisk storageNumber of websitesNumber of email accounts
webValue (Linux hosting)$9.50/month15GB510
Economy (Windows hosting)$11.17/month150GB NVMe1100
wpValue (WordPress hosting)$8.22/month10GB1-
bizValue (Business hosting)$19.96/month15GB SSD525

What I like about these plans is that they all come with unlimited bandwidth and robust customer support. However, there’s no denying Vodien is more expensive than other website hosting providers. For example, you can get WordPress hosting from Hostinger for as low as $1.66/month.

I can recommend Vodien web hosting if your website audience comes primarily from the Asia-Pacific region since Vodien has servers in Singapore and Australia. It’s also a good pick if you need a provider that can natively support larger-scale website networks. Otherwise, it’s worth considering a more cost-effective provider.

VPS pricing and plans

Vodien also offers virtual private server (VPS) hosting at different tiers. You can choose from cPanel Managed Servers, Linux VPS, and Windows VPS. Here are the cheapest options for each type of VPS hosting:

Vodien hosting management: is it easy to use?

Vodien provides many of the quality features I’ve come to expect of the best web hosting providers.

Webmasters will be happy to see that Vodien has one-click installers for WordPress, MediaWiki, Joomla, Magento, and more apps. I also found its management dashboard to be intuitive and user-friendly, simplifying website, domain, and email management.

Vodien hosting setup process

Vodien’s website is missing a Sign Up button that would make signing up for an account easier. To start the registration process, follow this step-by-step guide:

  1. Click Hosting from the top menu
  2. Choose which type of hosting you want to get. You can choose between Linux, Windows, WordPress, and Business hosting plans
  3. Choose your plan. You have the option of a 3-month, 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year plan. For the biggest discounts, I recommend opting for a long-term plan
  4. Connect a domain. You can connect an existing domain or purchase a new domain through Vodien
  5. Choose which add-ons you want. You can choose among options like an SSL certificate, website backup, and dedicated IP address
  6. Select Pay & Activate, and you’re done

This signup process is similar to that of other providers like Hostinger. I like that you can customize your plan so you don’t end up paying for features you won’t need.

Vodien dashboard and cPanel

Once your account is set up, you’ll be directed to your dashboard. This interface is clean and easily navigable, with all your options neatly laid out for you. You can easily access the management pages for your account, domains, hosting, email, security features, and more.

To navigate to a website’s control panel, simply click on Web Hosting > My Products > Manage > Control Panel. Vodien uses cPanel, an industry-standard control panel interface used by many web hosting providers.

Vodien website builder

Vodien’s website builder comes at an additional cost of $14.03/month, though there’s a 15-day free trial you can take advantage of to test the software. More expensive plans come with eCommerce management software for online stores.

The website builder isn’t intimidating to use, which is good news for newer Webmasters. Like with other builders, you can choose from many desktop and mobile-friendly templates, as well as drag-and-drop elements to achieve your ideal website design.

However, I’d say there’s nothing special about Vodien’s website builder and is in fact a rather expensive add-on. Other web hosting solutions offer their website builder built into their plans, which is something I’d like to see from Vodien in the future.

The 15-day free trial somewhat improves the experience, especially since you can supposedly test the website builder without providing payment details. However, during my testing, I was asked to provide my valid ID for verification before I could use the website builder. This was a negative experience for me, as usually, you’re not required to provide this kind of personal information for services like this.

Vodien web hosting features

Vodien’s hosting plans come with their own set of features. You can choose which plan best fits the needs of your website or blog.

Shared hosting

Within the Shared Hosting category, you can choose from 5 plans with varying resources. These features range from 15 to 150GB storage, 5 to 45 websites, 10 to 90 email accounts, and 5 to 45 databases. This makes Vodien accessible to individuals and businesses of varying needs.

These plans also come with unlimited bandwidth, cPanel, 400+ one-click installation applications, unlimited FTP accounts, unlimited subdomains, an optional SSL certificate, 24/7 customer support, backups, site analytics, and more.

VPS hosting

You also have a variety of VPS options with Vodien: cPanel managed VPS, Linux VPS, and Windows VPS. Linux VPS hosting is the cheapest option, starting at $11.50/month. Depending on the plan, you get 1 to 4 CPUs, 2 to 12GB RAM, 50 to 300GB NVMe storage, and 1 to 6TB bandwidth for data transfer.

The most expensive are managed VPS plans, which start at $152/month. With these plans, you also get server hardening, updates and patching, standard monitoring and reporting, and an SLA guarantee. You can also contact Vodien support for migration support, software support, and direct system administration.

WordPress hosting

WordPress hosting offers 3 plans that differ in the amount of storage (10 to 50GB) and number of WordPress sites (1 to 5) they offer. Other features included with every plan are unlimited bandwidth, one-click WordPress install, WP auto updates, one-click staging, DDoS protection, a temporary domain name, 24/7 site monitoring, a cache blaster, and WP transfer.

Business hosting plans

Vodien business hosting has many different tiers as well, with pricing ranging from $17.83/month to $149.5/month. These plans offer 15 to 150GB SSD storage, unlimited bandwidth, 5 to 40 hosted websites, 25 to 200 email accounts, and 5 to 40 databases.

Plans also include an SSL certificate, dedicated IP, spamGuard for your email accounts, antivirus protection, and A.I. Sentry.

Is Vodien hosting secure?

Like its website builder, security features cost extra with Vodien. For the Linux, Windows, and WordPress hosting plans, here are the security add-ons you can get and how much they cost:

  • SSL certificate: $4.33/month
  • Website backups: $2.42/month
  • DDoS protection: $38.42/month
  • Dedicated IP: $9.67/month

I consider all these options to be essential when building a website, so getting all these add-ons means an additional $54.84/month. If you’re set on using Vodien as a hosting provider, make sure to account for these extra expenses.

Vodien’s business plans offer better security for your website. With a business plan, you get the following features built-in:

  • Free SSL certificate
  • Notifications if someone modified your website without your knowledge
  • Anti-spam software for your email accounts
  • Anti-malware threat management system

I recommend getting a business plan (starts at $20.75/month) if you want security features included in your hosting solution. Otherwise, the Linux, Windows, and WordPress plans are more affordable and offer customizability for security features.

Vodien customer support

For users new to web management, having reliable customer support is essential for avoiding downtime and other potential issues.

Vodien offers a wide range of customer support options (called SuperSupport): phone support (24/7 in Singapore and Australia; 4AM to 8PM everywhere else), 24/7 email support, 24/7 live chat support, and helpful tutorials and guides.

While conducting my tests, I dialed Vodien hotlines in Australia and Singapore to test if they indeed provide round-the-clock phone support. Sure enough, I was connected to a customer service representative even though I called at 2 am (Singapore time).

I also tested their chat and email support and received satisfactory assistance. The representatives were able to answer my inquiries within respectable time frames.

Vodien customer reviews

Though you’ll find that Vodien is rated 4.5 stars on TrustPilot, some users reported significant issues while using the hosting provider.

One reviewer reported suffering from a complete database loss after Vodien conducted a server migration. Despite requests for assistance, this customer’s issue remained unresolved for months.

Another reviewer noted that they had trouble connecting to customer support via email and phone and reported being transferred to a different company (Pakhosting in Hong Kong). There was also a review mentioning “constant downtime” of their hosting server, which raises concerns for me.

Of course, it’s worth remembering that these reviews are only a fraction of the overall Vodien user experience. These instances may well be outliers. There are also plenty of positive reviews that praise Vodien, particularly its customer support staff. It’s also worth noting that, during testing, I didn’t run into any of the issues mentioned.

Final verdict

Like other hosting providers, Vodien comes with its ups and downs. I like its wide variety of hosting options that cater to businesses of all sizes. You can host anywhere from 1 to 45 websites or choose from 15 to 150GB storage options depending on your needs. I also found Vodien’s user interface to be user-friendly, perfect for novice web developers.

Unfortunately, Vodien’s hosting plans are more expensive than those offered by other providers. This is especially true for owners of small-to-medium businesses who may not need the unlimited bandwidth provided by Vodien. If you’re looking to host a small website or don’t expect visitors in the hundreds of thousands, then Vodien’s plans may be overkill.

Overall, I would recommend Vodien for medium-to-large businesses that need a feature-rich hosting solution and with the budget for higher costs. I especially think businesses in the Asia-Pacific region will enjoy Vodien since the company has servers in Australia and Singapore.
