Musk says Grok is coming to Tesla cars “very soon”

Grok could be integrated into Teslas as soon as next week, says billionaire Elon Musk after admitting the chatbot was “too eager to please and be manipulated.”

Musk took to his X social media platform to announce that xAI’s chatbot is coming to Teslas, commenting under a user post noting that the feature – while expected – was not advertised in the live demonstration of Grok 4 upon its release on Wednesday (July 9th).

“Grok is coming to Tesla vehicles very soon. Next week at the latest,” Musk said without providing further details.

The announcement comes after a rough week for Grok, which has gone through a “politically incorrect” update. It experienced a very public meltdown that saw it praising Nazi Germany leader Adolf Hitler, instructing users on how to commit sexual assaults, and getting banned in Turkey.

The announcement also coincides with the departure of Linda Yaccarino, who said she was stepping down as the chief executive of X after two years in the role.

Tesla has seen its sales plummeting, partly because of its owner Musk’s involvement with US President Donald Trump – which eventually led to a major fallout between the two – and his promotion of right-wing parties in Europe, which sparked protests on both sides of the Atlantic.

Last month, Musk fired Tesla’s longtime head of operations in North America and Europe, Omead Afshar, as the company’s sales slumped in both regions.

Tesla is at the point where adding a controversial chatbot may no longer inflict further damage to its reputation and xAI said it was working to remove any "inappropriate" posts, which included Grok claiming Hitler was the best suited 20th century figure to deal with “anti-white hate.”

The posts came after Musk announced last week that Grok was improved “significantly” and that users “should notice a difference” when asking it questions. In response to the controversial posts, the Tesla owner suggested Grok was prompted to answer the way it did.

Writing on X, he said that Grok was “too compliant to user prompts” and “too eager to please and be manipulated,” adding that the situation is being addressed.
