Netflix battles to contain Stranger Things season 5 leaks

Sensitive details about the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things are spreading online after reportedly leaking from one of the streamer’s many internal platforms.

So far, 2025 hasn’t been a very good year for Netflix, the world's largest streaming platform. First, Antenna has reported that a bundle of rivaling platforms – Disney+, Hulu, and Max – is doing a better job of keeping subscribers.

In other words, the content on offer is no longer such a magnet for viewers. Plus, they’re still complaining about the crackdown on password sharing and growing subscription prices.

Now, one of Netflix’s flagship shows, Stranger Things, has become the target of a new leak. Information about the fifth and final season of the series is spreading on the web despite Netflix’s best efforts to limit the damage through legal action and DMCA takedowns.

According to What’s on Netflix, the leak could have occurred on one of Netflix’s internal platforms, accessible from the internet but locked down unless you have specific credentials.

The platform that spilled the information was allegedly built to share production assets with third-party vendors and external partners such as clothing firms or toy manufacturers.

“It is similar to the Netflix Media Center, albeit the assets on this website are not meant for public consumption or the press,” said What’s on Netflix.

The identity of the person who gained access to this material and then downloaded and leaked it remains unclear. It’s also unknown whether the individual who accessed the content was authorized to do so or not.

The leaks range from actual images from the new season to character guides, logos, and artwork from various artists working with Netflix on the final season, which will be released in two volumes in October and November.

All this information is supposed to be confidential, but now, web users can even find out about a major character’s fate.

Several X accounts dedicated to all things Stranger Things have shared information from the leak but it’s unclear whether it’s authentic. Netflix has been busy making social media users delete their revealing posts.

Netflix also suffered a leak last year. However, it was a bit different because back then, in August 2024, entire episodes of some long-awaited animated series, including Arcane Season 2, Heartstopper Season 3, Dandadan, Ranma ½, and Terminator Zero, appeared online illegally.

A Netflix spokesperson soon revealed that one of the streamer’s “post-production partners has been compromised, and footage from several of our titles has unfortunately leaked online.”
