Pentagon’s new 64-file UFO dump includes orbs, astronauts, and Lake Huron mystery

The Pentagon on Friday drops its second batch of unsealed UFO files as promised – a 64-file tranche likely to keep the public enthralled over the three-day Memorial Day weekend, drumming up new theories and conspiracy claims about what the materials actually reveal.

The Trump-fueled UAP initiative, which saw its first declassified release of 161 never-before-seen government files posted on the site May 8th, is meant to provide decades of full disclosure – all in hopes of, once and for all, satisfying the nation’s endless obsession with the possible existence of extraterrestrial life on Earth.

"The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena,” US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said in a statement on Friday.

“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth said.

Stamped “CLEARED FOR RELEASE - MAY 22, 2026” under the US Department of War’s newly dedicated online portal PERSUE – an acronym for Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters – the 70.1 MB searchable collection includes 51 video files, seven audio files, and half a dozen PDFs.

What’s inside the UFO dump?

This particular batch, like the first, is said to include a variety of evidence reports, including documented human testimony and scientific findings on alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and other related information.

CBS News reported that the second release includes grainy military-style infrared footage, astronaut audio recordings, and various UFO reports, including from the Department of Energy, a US nuclear weapons facility, and a document on Soviet intelligence activities.

Declassified videos appear to show historical UFO sightings and unexplained military incidents, including the 2023 Lake Huron unidentified object shootdown.

One video appears to show the 2023 US fighter jet shootdown an unidentified object over Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes, sandwiched between Michigan and Ontario, Canada.

The shooting happened to coincide with the infamous Chinese spy balloon incident that same year, though later reports suggested the floating object may have been a hobbyist balloon, CBS said.

Another file describes a still-active US senior intelligence officer’s account of “close UAP encounters” aboard a military helicopter in late 2025, including sightings of glowing orange orbs near the aircraft. The officer said he and the crew were left “virtually speechless” after the encounter.

The audio files also include NASA astronaut recordings from the Apollo and Mercury missions describing objects seen in space, including “fireflies” and “snowflakes,” which NASA later attributed to frozen condensation separating from the spacecraft body.

As for the recent conspiracy mystery surrounding the disappearance and premature deaths of roughly a dozen top government deep space scientists, which some experts believe is linked to government UFO secrets, there are also no answers here.

Internet races to decode the records

As for the initial reaction to the shared files? For the most part shared frustration, disappointment, and dot-watching fatigue.

In one Reddit thread titled, “Are you happy/satisfied with the second round of UFO files?” most responses were direct and to the point.

“More blurry videos and some misinterpreted NASA communication. Doesn't change anything,” one Redditor commented. “This release has blatant birds in it. What a complete waste of time,” said another.

“They hyped the 2nd UFO disclosure like it was finally going to change everything… but after going through the videos and photos, it honestly feels like more of the same: blurry dots, grainy lights, vague shapes, and zero definitive proof. At this point, are we actually getting transparency… or just endless recycled mystery content?,” questioned another.

And finally, this Redditor declaring “We want to see the bodies,” was flatly told “They don’t exist or they won’t ever show you them. Just accept it.”

Will there be a third release?

Since the launch of the department’s war.gov/UFO earlier this month, US Secretary of War for Public Affairs and Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said the site has received more than 1 billion hits worldwide.

Parnell said the numbers highlight the “unprecedented levels of interest in both this topic and the Trump administration's historic transparency effort.”

The Secretary also announced Friday that a third Pentagon UFO file drop is already in the works, with “additional files to be released on a rolling basis.”

Parnell said the exact date of the department's third release has yet to be determined.

Whether these next UAP material disclosures actually answer the age-old question: “Do aliens exist?” Well, that’s up to the public to decide.
