The Dutch web hosting company Argeweb has experienced performance issues for over a week now. In a recent update, the company says this is due to a DDoS attack.
On March 25th, the web hosting company first noticed performance issues on some of its DNS servers regarding domain resolving. This caused websites to be poorly accessible.
“We are working to resolve this as soon as possible,” Argeweb’s parent company Yourhosting wrote on its status page.
It took the hosting provider two days to fix these problems. However, the fix didn’t last and forced the company to work with its suppliers to deal with these “recurring problems.”
On March 31st, the performance issues still weren’t solved, and the company promised to find a permanent solution and fix it as soon as possible.
On April 1st, Yourhosting spoke of a DDoS attack for the first time.
“Our team is working hard on a permanent fix so that you can quickly do business online again without worries,” the hosting company promised.
According to Yourhosting’s most recent update, which was published in the morning of April 3rd, the situation has been stable at Argeweb.
“We have taken additional measures to counter the ever-changing attacks. For the past two days, our platform has remained stable. We are keeping a close eye on the situation with increased monitoring so we can intervene immediately if necessary,” the company says.
Although everything seems to be in working order, a company spokesperson told the Dutch tech website Tweakers that it would keep monitoring the situation closely “for the next couple of days.”
This isn’t the first time Argeweb has had to deal with a DDoS attack. In May 2021, a DDoS attack disrupted the company’s domain name server (DNS) platform, causing several services to go offline.
In April 2012, the hosting provider had to ask its clients to change the passwords of their customer portal and FTP account after an unauthorized person accessed the corporate network of a company that managed the network that included Argeweb.
“It’s really just a precautionary measure,” Argeweb’s CEO said at the time.
