According to The Guardian, an Australian programmer discovered some security flaws in the company’s website and reported them to Trump Mobile. The British news outlet states that he’s been working in IT for nearly 20 years and asked not to be identified out of fear of personal attacks.
The security expert uncovered code on Trump Mobile’s website that exposed the personal information of 27,224 Americans who filled out the company’s pre-order form for the Trump Mobile T1.
Due to a security bug in the pre-order form, full names, addresses, and phone numbers were exposed.
“Based on the available information, we have not identified evidence that Trump Mobile’s systems, infrastructure, or network were directly compromised. The investigation remains ongoing,” Trump Mobile said in a statement.
According to the announcement, no Trump Mobile payment card information, banking information, Social Security numbers, call records, text messages, or other highly sensitive financial data have been exposed.
“At this time, the impacted information appears to be limited to certain customer details, including names, email addresses, mailing addresses, order identifiers, and mobile phone numbers,” the statement continues.
A company spokesperson told The Guardian that additional safeguards and monitoring measures have been implemented. Furthermore, the business is evaluating to see whether there are “any applicable notification obligations.”
Lastly, Trump Mobile said that customers should be vigilant for any suspicious emails, calls, or text messages regarding their orders. Also, the company “will not ask customers to provide payment information, passwords, or other sensitive information through unsolicited communications.”
Last week, the first media outlets started receiving the Trump Mobile T1 phone.
