New HDMI standard to be announced at CES 2025


The new standard is likely to be called HDMI 2.2 and will support higher resolutions and refresh rates.

With a couple of weeks left until CES 2025, reports are starting to emerge about announcements to be made at the biggest consumer electronics show in the world.

HDMI Forum, which is planning a media event on January 6th, will unveil a new HDMI standard.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a standard for simultaneously transmitting digital video and audio from a source.

The current standard is 2.1b, and its specifications were announced in 2023. It supports a transfer rate of 48 Gbps, resolutions up to 10 K, Dynamic HDR, and a 120 HZ refresh rate at 4K resolution.

According to HDMI Forum, the new standard will enable a wide range of higher resolutions and refresh rates, and will be supported with a new HDMI Ccable.

And while Tthe organization doesn’t say howwhat the new standard will be called, HDMI 2.2 appears to be the most likely name.

It will take some time for the new specifications to be adopted by the industry. However, the port itself will likely stay the same, meaning that users will be able to use the updated specifications of HDMI via an old cable.
