Microsoft started testing a function that allows iPhone users to share files with Windows computers through Phone Link and the Link to Windows app.
The file-sharing feature works with iPhones that run on iOS 16 or higher and Windows 11 and Windows 10 computers.
Among other requirements, the feature can be used only by registered Windows Insider Program users.
The program, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year, offers users the possibility to preview new features, connect with Microsoft engineers, and provide them with feedback.
To share files from an iPhone to a PC, a user has to check the file, tap “share,” and select “Link to Windows,” which will allow them to select a device to which they want to send the file.
When sharing a file from a computer to an iPhone, the user has to select the file, right-click on it, and select “My Phone.”
Some users online were curious to know when the feature could be accessible to everyone, with one user stating that “it really depends on the change and how feedback/quality looks.”
Others wanted to know how this way of sharing is better than, for example, using Google Drive.
“No internet access is needed for one. It can also extract text from images, at least for Android devices, no idea if they had to scrap that for Apple to allow it. But anyway, as Apple people like to say, It just works,” noted one Redditor.
