Back at it: Anthropic and Pentagon resume discussion over the use of Claude

After what seemed like the end of the deal, the two sides are talking again.

Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei, has reopened discussions with the Pentagon on how the government could use its AI.

The conversation takes place after the initial negotiations between the AI company and the institution stalled, as Anthropic sought to ensure that its services wouldn’t be used for mass surveillance or the deployment of autonomous weapons.

After this escalation, OpenAI struck a deal with the Pentagon.

Now, Anthropic has resumed the discussion with Pentagon officials, according to Bloomberg.

If these discussions are successful, the military would return to using Anthropic’s AI.

After Anthropic’s and the Pentagon's disagreement, the institution claimed the company as a supply-chain risk, thereby damaging Anthropic as a brand.

Nevertheless, the outcome was different: the company received consumer support for opposing mass surveillance and saw a surge in new users.
