The novel, which turned out to be a great success, winning two awards and attracting a publishing opportunity, was soon questioned on how it was actually created.
AlphaPolis, a Japanese publishing company known for publishing novels and manga, revoked the win from an isekai novel that won its Fantasy Novel Awards.
Isekai is a sub-genre of Japanese manga, novels, and anime in which the main character appears in an alternate world.
The company changed its mind about the winning novel of the 18th AlphaPolis Fantasy Novel Awards.
The novel received two awards: the Grand Prize and the Reader's Choice Award.
However, AlphaPolis not only decided to take back these winnings but also canceled the plans to turn it into a book or manga, according to Otaku Soken.
The reason for this is that the novel was generated by AI.
Translated as Modest Skill “Tidying Up” is the Strongest! ~ Corporate Slave Office Lady Started An Accidental Isekai Revolution, and is Now Adored by the Head Knight and His Majesty the Emperor, the story got its wins revoked as it didn’t adhere to AlphaPolis guidelines.
The decision to no longer publish the story as a book was made after the company updated its guidelines, stating that works created using AI can’t participate in the contest.
Considering the rise of AI-generated content and the potential rights issues the company could face if the book were published, AlphaPolis decided not to proceed with its release.
The novel’s author shared their take on the decision, stating that they don’t see it as a “loss.” The author added that now their “challenge is to create better works together with AI."
AI is no longer used simply as an assistant that can plan your time or trips. It’s also taking over creative industries.
One of the early instances of AI posing a threat with its faux suggestions was when a generated book list of readings that didn’t exist was published in a physical newspaper.
AI has been utilized in numerous artistic industries, including video production, music, and even acting.
It took a while for whoever is behind The Velvet Sundown, an AI-generated band that became popular on Spotify, to admit that the music it plays isn’t written by actual human beings.
Another product of AI that sparked a heated online discussion was Tilly Norwood, a “synthetic” actor. The “new” actress was soon condemned for possibly replacing real talents in the acting world.
