Apple develops new system that could revive Siri

Apple may be back in the race against OpenAI and Perplexity AI with the launch of its AI-powered web search tool, which is expected to be released in 2026.
The new system, referred to as World Knowledge Answers, will be integrated into the Siri voice assistant. The technology could also be added to the Safari web browser and Spotlight search, used to look for files, apps, emails, and more through a home screen.
The new system aims to serve as a much-anticipated Siri redo, according to people familiar with the matter, reports Bloomberg.

The renewed Siri would work similarly to ChatGPT and Google Search, allowing users to search the web for information as the system would rely on large language models (LLMs).
The technology behind the future Siri could be powered by Google, with which Apple has been collaborating. The two companies already had an agreement for Apple to test Google’s AI model, which could be used to power the voice assistant.
Apple’s new search experience will use photos, videos, text, and other significant elements. It will also include a quicker and more accurate AI-based summarization.
The future assistant will analyze personal data and on-screen content to provide users with better results. It will also help them navigate their smartphones through voice and find information like images and files more quickly.
Siri, first announced in 2011 and considered revolutionary at the time, now faces some backlash as it struggles to provide users with answers to more intricate queries, often referring to results from ChatGPT or Google.
Apart from Siri revamp, the company also hinted at creating a chatbot for search.
The new Siri and search changes are planned to be released together with the iOS 26.4, which may come out around March, while the iOS 26 version will come out this month, together with the release of iPhone17.
Apple is ready to release its latest hardware and software updates on Tuesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. PT, during its “awe dropping” product launch event.
