Facebook has introduced a new feature that allows Meta AI to suggest edits and collages to photos from your camera roll to make sharing pictures more accessible.
Meta says that many people take photos to capture their special moments, but later don’t share them because they don’t consider them ‘shareworthy.’
The new opt-in feature, which was launched as a test over the summer, uses AI to surface the best photos and videos from your camera roll and suggests edits and collages to make sharing old moments a pleasant experience.
It can enhance your best photos or make fun videos/collages to make them stand out. The feature applies to those images that haven’t yet been shared but could otherwise “get lost among screenshots, receipts, and random snaps.”
This means that a user doesn’t need to have any design skills to use the feature. It makes private suggestions, allowing the user to choose whether to share the images or keep them private.
The company assures that it doesn’t use those photos to train its Meta AI – unless you choose to edit this media with its AI tools, or share. The images will also not be used for ad targeting purposes.
The feature has already been rolled out to people in the US and Canada and can be disabled at any time. Users can opt in to receive sharing suggestions, and then will be prompted to share their photos in Stories and Feed.
Meta will start testing it in additional countries in the coming months.
The company, which is said to have over 1 billion monthly users, has been actively participating in the AI race. It has previously said that it will use your interactions with its AI features to feed you ads based on your activity. Additionally, in 2024, a Meta representative disclosed that it had used Facebook and Instagram users' public posts and pictures to train its AI models.
