LG wants to see AI-powered agents controlling our lives

LG has revealed a new vision for artificial intelligence (AI) powered consumer experiences by introducing “affectionate intelligence.”

LG’s CEO William Cho broadcast his vision to over 1000 attendees at the LG World Premiere event in Las Vegas on January 6th, 2025, on the eve of CES 2025.

The technology is said to redefine our already established understanding of AI. This notion of “Affectionate Intelligence” will supposedly serve as a friendly personal home assistant and all-around helper that will proactively and reactively guide you through your day.

This concept uses AI technology to “better understand and empathize with customers,” providing a customizable and personalized experience, LG said.

At the event, a short demonstration was conducted. It showed a morning scene in which LG’s AI agent Furon adjusted the room's temperature after it noticed someone was coughing in the night.

According to the demo, LG’s AI agent can also suggest things based on your schedule. In this scenario, the person didn’t have any plans for the afternoon, so Furon said, “Why not accompany your mother to her scheduled health check-up?”

But, it doesn’t stop there, as on your daily commute, LG’s agent might ask you if you’d like to stop for coffee after sensing that you forgot your coffee cup.

The LG agent also monitors biometric signals such as elevated heart rate and will play soothing music to help you relax before that big meeting.

Alongside proactive measures like rerouting the driver to avoid accidents, the LG agent may also suggest how a person should attend their meeting, “perhaps you should take the meeting virtually from your vehicle to avoid delays,” the agent might say.

After a long day at the office, your AI assistant should “enhance your home experience” by analyzing your environment, patterns, and history to recommend personalized content alongside other features like audio adjustments.

This dystopian concept is underpinned by three fundamental elements, “connected devices, capable AI, and integrated services.”

For those who can afford the likely pricey concept, connected devices will act as a customer’s “touchpoint for AI,” and LG is said to be developing its AI agent Furon further to better understand its users.
