Lovable hits 8m users despite security concerns

The one-year-old Swedish vibe coder is approaching eight million users, but it still keeps security researchers sweating more than other apps.
The CEO of AI coding platform Loveable, Anton Osika, has disclosed that user numbers have soared from 2.3 million active users in July to “almost eight million.”
The new data was revealed on stage during Lisbon’s Web Summit this week. While it’s unclear how many of these are paying customers, Osika claimed a figure of 180,000 subscribers in a talk given this summer.
At the web summit, Osika added that the company sees “100,000 new products built on Lovable every single day.”
According to TechCrunch, the start-up has already achieved "unicorn" status with a value of $1.8 billion placed on it this summer.
Security Concerns
And yet the vibe coder is still keeping security experts on their toes as it becomes the go-to tool for low-skill attackers who want to misuse AI to create phishing scams.
In one Guardio Labs test, researchers attempted to generate a prompt that contained all elements of a scam without explicitly stating it. While ChatGPT and Claude initially refused to answer, Lovable produced a scam page similar to an official Microsoft page without hesitation. To prevent this from happening again, earlier this month Lovable integrated Guardio's safe browsing tools into its Gen AI chain.
The vibe coding app was also found to allow unauthorized users to access sensitive user information thanks to a critical vulnerability. Experts have warned users to be cautious about which “vibe coder” they trust with their personal data.
The tool appears to have hit the zeitgeist, however, with the news last week that vibe coding has been hailed ‘Word of the Year’ by Collins Dictionary.
The term was first coined in February by Andrej Karpathy. OpenAI’s cofounder used it to describe giving an AI the "vibe" or concept of what you want, making software creation accessible to non-coders or speeding up development for experts by handling the technical implementation.
