Belgian Royal Family demands Meta take down deepfakes of Crown Princess Elisabeth

Dozens of deepfakes of 24-year-old Crown Princess Elisabeth are circulating on social media. The Belgian Royal Family has asked Meta to take these fake videos offline.

There’s a fake Facebook account impersonating Crown Princess Elisabeth. The account has more than 28,000 followers and has posted dozens of photos and videos of the Crown Princess and the Royal Family over the past few months.

One of the deepfake videos has sparked outrage because the Princess is dancing in a scantily clad prison uniform. This particular video has been viewed over 14,000 times and acquired over 1,000 likes.

The Belgian Royal Family is aware of the fake account and the dozens of AI-generated images and videos that have been shared. In a response to VRT NWS, the Royal Family states that it has “taken the necessary steps” to report the images.

This isn’t the first time that the Belgian Crown Princess has become the victim of AI-generated deepfakes and images.

In September 2025, a photo of Prince Georg of Liechtenstein and Princess Elisabeth appeared out of the blue on the Instagram account “Royal Monarchies.” The account claimed that the photo was taken during a vacation in Greece.

This sparked widespread speculation that Princess Elisabeth might be in a relationship with the Prince of Liechtenstein. Ultimately, it turned out that the photo was fake and was created using artificial intelligence.

The Belgian Royal Family isn’t the only one being targeted by scammers. In January 2026, deepfakes of Princess Kako of Japan and Princess of Wales Catherine appeared online, posing them in a “tiny bikini” or even naked.

Last week, the European Parliament agreed to changes to the AI Act, banning AI nude-faking apps in the European Union. The ban is expected to take effect this summer.
