- Spotify will launch AI Persona badges in mid-September to flag artists whose identity may be AI-generated.
- The badge lets listeners see if an artist self-disclosed AI use or if Spotify reviewed and labeled their profile.
- Flagged artists can self-disclose or appeal, and listeners will soon be able to report suspected fake artists.
- Spotify removed over 75 million AI-generated tracks last year as part of its broader anti-fraud and authenticity push.

Starting mid-September, Spotify is launching AI Persona badges to identify AI-generated music on its platform.
“A true artist-fan connection can only be built on a foundation of trust and authenticity. In music, that means listeners need to be able to trust that the artist behind the music is who they say they are. That’s more essential than ever in the age of generative AI,” Spotify says in a recently published blog post.
That’s why the music streaming platform is stepping up its efforts to identify music that’s been fully or partially created with AI technology and to separate these songs from real musicians’ work.
To do this, Spotify has been working on a feature called AI Persona badges.
According to the music streaming service, an AI Persona badge signals to listeners that an artist’s songs or identity may be AI-generated and doesn’t represent a real person.
If such a badge appears on an artist’s profile page, users can tap on it to see whether the artist honestly admits they’ve been using AI to create songs, or if Spotify reviewed their work and decided to label their music as AI-generated.
Artists who receive an AI Persona badge will be notified and given the option to self-disclose or appeal. In the coming months, listeners will be given the option to report artists whom they believe are not real people.
“We know the music ecosystem is evolving, and so will our approach. We’ll continue to adapt as the landscape changes and as we learn from artists, listeners, and industry partners,” Spotify promises.

Spotify is fighting tooth and nail to fend off AI-generated music. Last year, Spotify disclosed that it had removed over 75 million AI-generated tracks from its platform.
“At its best, AI is unlocking incredible new ways for artists to create music and for listeners to discover it. At its worst, AI can be used by bad actors and content farms to confuse or deceive listeners, push ‘slop’ into the ecosystem, and interfere with authentic artists working to build their careers,” the platform said at the time.
In addition, to combat the influx of AI-generated music and put a stop to legacy fraud, Spotify previously introduced features like Verified by Spotify, SongDNA, AI Credits, and Artist Profile Protection.
