Even though it has multiple dedicated streaming servers, only the one based in the US is active. I used it to try unblocking popular streaming services and managed to access HBO without any troubles.

Unfortunately, I had issues when trying to unblock Netflix, so I couldn’t enjoy it as comfortably as HBO.

Therefore, if you want to unblock more streaming platforms, you can choose one of the best VPNs for streaming and use it for the sole purpose of watching geo-blocked content.

The speeds were pretty good, but they weren't very consistent, especially when talking about the upload speed. I made sure to use OpenVPN for these tests, as other protocols that it offers (FTP, SSH/SCP/SFTP, HTTP, HTTPS) aren't usually used for VPNs.

However, you can also set up IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, WireGuard and SOCKS5 configurations to get great speeds. The only thing is that you’ll need to download an additional software client for each device and set it up manually. Thus, if you don’t mind completing a few extra configuration steps, you can get modern protocols on this VPN as well.

All of these protocols support AES encryption, meaning that no matter which one you choose – you will be using AES-256 encryption. Also, keep in mind that some of the protocols are old and vulnerable to attacks.

It’s also important to note that when I was web browsing, I noticed a huge drop in the speed/latency. Most likely, some part of their system was overloaded, as I usually don't experience such issues when using other VPNs.

Security

When it comes to encryption, all protocols except WireGuard and SOCKS5 use AES-256 encryption, which is standard in the industry. It’s a great option to secure your data.

This VPN also has an option to use FTP as a tunneling protocol, which is notorious for being insecure. I highly advise you to avoid it, as well as the HTTP. Apart from these, other tunneling protocols that Trust.zone offers are secure.

Another security feature this VPN provides is the kill switch. Overall, it’s a useful attribute, but I wouldn’t say that it is implemented in a user-friendly way like in other VPNs with a kill switch.

During the test, it disabled all internet traffic once I disconnected from a VPN server. In simple terms, you would need to manually disable it before trying to connect to one of Trust.zone VPN servers.

Furthermore, it has DNS leak protection. Even though it is disabled by default, you can manually enable this feature. Yet, only on Windows, iOS, and Android applications.

Trust.zone is a very simple application which is not packed with complex features. It’s great for users seeking basic VPN services.

It’s worth mentioning that the Double VPN feature is one of the more advanced ones. It is designed to route your traffic through two separate servers to increase the level of IP protection even more.

However, not all features are available on most popular devices. For example, the kill switch and DNS leak protection can only be used on Windows. Also, you have to pay extra to get the protection against DDoS attacks and the Port forwarding feature.

You can get the Trust.zone VPN from $2.33/month if you choose the 2-year subscription package. It is quite a standard yearly price, but the monthly subscription is relatively expensive. Yet, you can get a 10% discount if you pay for the subscription with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Emercoin, Verge, or CloakCoin.

It’s important to note that you can get more features for an extra price. However, I wish the features like DDoS protection and 3 additional connections would have been included in the base subscription. Especially, since other VPN service providers give more simultaneous connections by default and Trust.zone offers only three.

Furthermore, you can get a free 3-day trial to test the VPN. It’s a relatively small number of days, as the other VPNs with a free trial allow you to try them for at least a week.

Also, it doesn’t have a standard money-back guarantee. Instead, Trust.zone only allows you to get a refund within the first 10 days if you used less than 1GB of traffic.

Applications

Trust.zone only has apps for Windows, iOS, and Android. MacOS and Linux users can find guides on how to set up a connection to its servers manually.

What I found surprising, is that their Windows app works with Windows XP, and their Android app can run on Android 4.4, while most other providers would only have guides for manual connections for such old systems.

The UI itself isn't the most pleasant to look at, it makes you feel like you are a kid on your Windows XP computer. Though apart from that, the app is easy to navigate, even if things like being able to search for a server are not available. Which would make things easier in some scenarios.

Of course, Android TV and Firestick apps are out of the question with this provider, especially since it is terrible at unblocking streaming services.

Customer support

Trust.zone’s customer support isn’t great – you can either go through their FAQ, or send a ticket. It usually takes at least a day or sometimes even more than a week for the customer support team to respond.

Their replies are very short and straight to the point, which can be both a good and a bad thing, as there is no corporate fluff, but also some replies can seem unprofessional.

Conclusion

Trust.zone is an affordable VPN which offers very basic features. While it might not be a good choice similar to Opera VPN for tech-savvy people, regular users who seek for simple VPN services might find it useful.

However, keep in mind that it won’t unblock Netflix or other streaming platforms, and that it has quite a few insecure protocols. So, if you want truly premium tools, you should consider getting one of the best VPNs that can truly deliver high quality services.
