Kamatera review 2026: is it worth it?

Choosing a VPS provider isn’t just about specs on paper – it’s about how well the service actually performs when you put it to work. Kamatera is one of the more established names in cloud hosting, offering highly customizable servers and a wide global network of data centers. It’s designed to handle everything from small projects to more demanding, resource-heavy applications.

In this Kamatera VPS review 2026, I took a hands-on approach to see how it really holds up. Instead of relying on marketing claims, I tested the setup process, explored the dashboard, and checked performance under real usage. I also looked closely at pricing to figure out whether it delivers good value, especially for users who care about flexibility and control.

Kamatera’s standout features

Kamatera stands out for its fully customizable cloud VPS infrastructure. You can build the exact VPS you need. Instead of choosing from fixed plans, you can customize the number of CPU cores, RAM, SSD storage, and bandwidth. If your project grows, you can increase resources in minutes without moving to a new server. This makes Kamatera a strong option for both small projects and high-traffic websites or apps.

You can also choose from many operating systems. Kamatera supports Linux options like Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux, and Rocky Linux, as well as Windows Server. You can deploy a server from ready-made images or upload your own ISO if you need a custom setup. Full admin access is included, so you can manage everything yourself.

The control panel is simple and gives you quick access to key tools like server monitoring and snapshots. Kamatera also includes a load balancer, which helps distribute traffic across multiple servers. This improves stability and keeps services running smoothly during high-traffic periods.

Kamatera's ease of use and hosting management

I tried Kamatera’s VPS myself, and while the interface is clean, the server setup required some technical knowledge. Configuring a plan and the server isn’t beginner-friendly, but to be fair, most VPS platforms I've tested aren’t. The more control a provider gives its users, the more complexity comes along with it.

Kamatera hosting setup process

I set up a VPS on Kamatera to test how well it handles a basic WordPress project. The whole process wasn’t overly complicated, but it’s definitely aimed at users who have prior experience. Here are the steps I followed:

  1. First, I signed up with my email and password. Kamatera required email verification and two-factor authentication to be set up.
  2. Before doing anything else, I had to complete my billing profile and enter credit card information. Kamatera did not let me explore the dashboard or create a server until I had done that.
  3. Once inside, I clicked Create New Server and selected the Stockholm data center.

  4. I picked Linux 2.6-6.x Kernel as my OS and allocated 1 vCPU, 3GB of RAM, and 10GB of SSD storage, which I figured was more than enough for a simple WordPress site.

  5. After launching the server, I connected over SSH and installed the stack myself. It worked smoothly, but required some command-line knowledge.

Compared to other providers like Hostinger, Kamatera is more time-consuming and requires knowledge. I wouldn’t recommend it for total beginners, but it's a solid option if you want to learn and trust your skills.

Kamatera control panel

Kamatera provides its own intuitive console for managing your VPS and scaling resources, rebooting, and monitoring. However, you will need a web hosting control panel for other tasks.

When setting up the server, Kamatera gave me options for free and paid control panels. I was able to choose from quite a few one-click install panels during server creation. These include free options like CyberPanel, VestaCP, Webmin, and ISPConfig, which are available in the setup menu.

If you prefer something more advanced or familiar, you can also pay extra to use cPanel or Plesk. I went with a manual setup using a plain Linux server and SSH, but having all these pre-configured choices is helpful, especially if you don’t want to spend time installing everything yourself.

Performance – is Kamatera fast?

If there’s one thing that makes Kamatera stand out from its competitors, it’s the performance. This web host is an example of what the performance should be like, regardless of the price point. During 2 weeks of hands-on testing, Kamatera proved to be reliable, fast, and able to handle loads of traffic even on the more budget-friendly plans.

To evaluate Kamatera in more detail, I conducted thorough tests that helped me identify all the crucial performance aspects.

Server uptime and response time

My tests revealed that Kamatera maintains an excellent uptime of 100%, which is better than some of the best hosting providers like DreamHost. More precisely, the performance of various cryptographic algorithms is solid.

This indicates that the Kamatera server is capable of doing many tasks at once and should be able to handle traffic from many users without causing them noticeable slowdowns or other frustrations.

I was especially surprised when I saw that Kamatera has a 99.95% uptime guarantee, meaning the actual results and performance are better than what it promises. Also, the average response time was excellent. It was very stable and fell below the market’s average of 600ms, as I observed 186.77ms.

Speed

One of the main reasons why Kamatera showed such great results is that you can choose from 24 data center locations across the world, including the US, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Singapore, China, Japan, and Australia.

According to my tests, the average speed between the VPS and a server in Oregon, US, was about 3.5MB/s. However, the speed between the VPS and my Lithuanian ISP was around 31.25MB/s.

Stress testing

In order to perform a Kamatera stress test, I evaluated the system’s performance using 50 virtual users (VUs) over a period of around 3 minutes. The first thing that caught my eye was that there were no HTTP failures on 10.3 thousand requests.

The peak request rate was 50 requests per second (RPS), while the system maintained an average request rate of 47 RPS. More so, the 95th percentile (P95) response time was 7.9ms, indicating excellent system stability under this load.

Overall, I can say that my tests showed incredible response times and no failures throughout this period.

With all of this in mind, Kamatera doesn’t seem to have any significant weak links. I must also mention that the technology it uses is the reason for the fantastic performance review results I got.

Is Kamatera a secure host?

Kamatera’s Cloud Firewall feature blocks all unauthorized traffic from your network. This system will protect your servers from malware, intrusion attacks, code injection, spyware, hidden rootkit installations, and data leakage.

Hosting server-side security

There are many techniques that ensure your servers will be safe and sound. Here are the main ones I found important:

  • Cloud firewalls. Kamatera’s native Cloud Firewall protects your website from attacks while monitoring your servers in real time. It also lets you set rules and filter data packets, exclusively authorizing the entry of certified and approved data packets to your servers.
  • Disaster Recovery Solutions. Another core part of Kamatera’s security is the Disaster Recovery Solutions feature. It provides backups, recovery, and failover systems to minimize service disruptions.

Backups and SSL

Another thing that Kamatera implements is archiving your website’s database at restore points for immediate recovery. So, if there’s a system failure, Kamatera’s backup machines are automatically triggered to ensure your user experience is not affected. On top of this, its hosting plans also enable you to install free SSL certificates that provide your website with an additional layer of security.

At first sight, it seems like Kamatera doesn’t have enough security features. While this is true to some extent, I still found it offers all the essential ones, helping users to secure their website from the most common vulnerabilities.

Additional security features

Kamatera is not one of the hosting solutions with numerous security features, but two-factor authentication is a great addition. So, even if a hacker or malicious actor accesses your password, they won’t be able to log in.

Aside from the password, I was requested to set a second layer of security, which sent me an access code via email. As a result, I felt a little safer.

That said, Kamatera may consider adding some extra security practices, but for now, I’m not complaining.

Kamatera hosting plans and pricing

Kamatera’s VPS pricing starts at $4.00/month, which is slightly more expensive than competitors like IONOS, whose prices start from $2.00/month for Linux VPS, but still on the lower end.

Below, I prepared a breakdown of the preconfigured VPS plans and their prices if you don’t want to build everything from scratch.

PlanvCPURAMStoragePriceBest for
Basic1 vCPU1GB20GB SSD$4.00/monthTesting, basic tools, and personal use
Standard2 vCPU2GB20GB SSD$25.00/monthSmall websites or blogs
Pro2 vCPU4GB20GB SSD$39.00/monthGrowing sites or lightweight apps

As Kamatera lets you fully customize a cloud VPS, you can choose CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth, OS options, and different add-ons. This way, you pay only for the exact resources you use and scale up or down at any moment. However, the price increased quickly when I started selecting add-ons and choosing higher resource limits.

Kamatera type a plan
Kamatera VPS server configuration options

Depending on your selected extras, a server with 4 vCPU, 8GB RAM, and 100GB SSD can cost around $40–50/month. This level of customization is ideal for users with specific needs, but it may feel overwhelming for beginners.

Kamatera also offers a 30-day free trial, which includes 1 server worth up to $100 and 1000GB of traffic. You’ll need to provide billing details upfront, but the amount is refunded if you cancel within the trial period. While there’s no standard money-back guarantee, the trial serves the same purpose.

Kamatera isn’t the cheapest option, but I would choose it when I need lots of flexibility and scalability. If you need predictable pricing and beginner-friendly management, you might be better off with providers like IONOS or Hostinger.

Kamatera customer support

Whether the support you need is for technical help, sales inquiries, or billing questions, it’s nice to know you can reach knowledgeable and friendly professionals whenever you need them. Kamatera offers 24/7 support for every issue you may run into.

24/7 live chat✅ Yes
Email✅ Yes
Ticketing system✅ Yes
Phone line✅ Yes
Knowledge base✅ Yes

You can reach Kamatera’s customer support via live chat, phone, or email. But the list doesn’t stop here. You can also browse its extensive knowledge base, FAQ section, and blog.

However, there are some things that I must point out. During my live chat support testing, I noticed that even though the responses were very quick (a few seconds), the answers were a bit limited. Also, I didn’t feel any friendliness from the agents, at least the one they connected me with.

What’s more, only the technical support phone numbers are available 24/7. If you need assistance with sales or billing, you need to check the working times on the official Kamatera support page.

Still, this isn’t an issue as the live chat makes up for this, plus you can always solve any technical query at any time. What I also liked is that Kamatera has separate email accounts for sales and accounts, technical issues, and billing and accounting. All in all, I can say Kamatera’s support is well organized.

Final verdict

Kamatera is an excellent choice if you want to create your own cloud servers and host your website. It’s affordable, secure, and has 24/7 customer support that will give you a hand whenever you face an issue. However, this provider requires some technical knowledge, so it’s not the best choice for beginners.

Feature
4.2
High-quality hosting on a budget
Features
Kamatera’s feature set is strong for anyone who wants full control, as it lets you customize resources and scale quickly. However, it’s more infrastructure-focused than user-focused and not suitable for beginners.
Ease of Use
Kamatera was a bit challenging to use as a web host. Although it has a neat dashboard, cPanel is available as an additional option, and the server setup can be a bit tricky.
Performance
Kamatera nailed all of the performance tests. It showed excellent performance, fantastic stability, and fast response times, surpassing many leading web hosts.
Security
Kamatera takes care of all essential security measures. However, it doesn’t elaborate a lot on them.
Pricing
Kamatera is among the cheapest web hosts, with the initial plan starting at $4.00/month. However, as I added more resources, the price increased quickly.
Support
Kamatera has 24/7 customer support via multiple channels. Although you’ll receive a response immediately, the agents didn’t leave the best impression on me.

Who do I recommend Kamatera to?

Kamatera is one of the best hosting solutions on the market. However, I would recommend it for more experienced website owners or developers who want to cut costs and enjoy tailor-made servers. As it doesn’t support shared hosting and doesn’t include cPanel in its plans, you might find it a bit challenging if you’re a beginner.

However, its customization options are excellent if you want to get a server that is made to meet your needs. You can choose the number of resources, data center location, OS type, and a lot more.
