Records full of sensitive data belonging to over 60 million Verizon customers are allegedly circulating online, according to SafetyDetectives’ Cybersecurity Team.
Researchers discovered a clear web forum post where a threat actor claims to offer a database totaling 3.1 GB in a CSV/JSON file and consisting of 61 million “Verizon USA” records.
It’s unclear whether the data is part of a new breach or even if it really belongs to Verizon customers. The information is dated “2025”, although TechRadar Pro has since contacted Verizon and received a response that it is old data, not affiliated with the company.
"We're aware of an issue in which a threat actor posted a data set claiming to that of Verizon customers on the dark web. We have examined the postings and have determined that it is old data, previously posted on the dark web, and is not affiliated with our Company or customers. Additionally, this threat actor recently made similar claims about other large U.S. wireless companies. At this point, there's no need to notify customers and there's no impact to Verizon or its customers,” Verizon told TechRadar Pro in a statement.
One forum member requested a link to download the dataset and received a response: “For sale”.
The data samples assessed by SafetyDetectives’ Cybersecurity Team included:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Gender
- DOB
- Tax ID + 3 more ID numbers per customer
- Full Address
- Two different phone numbers per customer
This particular information is sensitive as it could be used for malicious attacks, including phishing, fraud, and identity theft.
If you're concerned your data might have been exposed, make sure you use strong passwords, be cautious of suspicious messages or communication, restrict access to personal details online (like your birthday), and regularly monitor your accounts for suspicious transactions or credit card activity.
Verizon is a major American telecommunications company with 146 million mobile subscribers. In April 2025, an ethical hacker, Evan Connelly, discovered a critical flaw in the Verizon Call Filter iOS app, exposing incoming call history.
