He hacked Apple and the US gov: Video reveals hacker’s 'studio apartment' prison cell

A short video circulating on X shows one of the internet’s most notorious hackers waiting out extradition from a French prison cell, which looks more like a studio apartment than a jail.

A video hit the X platform, allegedly showing the notorious hacker Kai Logan West (25), known by his pseudonym IntelBroker, spending time in a French prison cell.

The brief video suggests that the British national is being held in conditions that look closer to a modest room than a traditional prison cell. The facilities have a work desk, basic cooking facilities, and a window.

The footage appears to have been recorded by West himself, raising questions about whether he currently has access to a mobile phone while in custody.“Damn, he has a fridge. It’s better than most college dorms,” commented an X user named Doug Stewart.

“So, it's basically the same as the hacker den he lived in for years,” responded another X user named ShepardShadows.

West was arrested in France in February 2025. According to the US Department of Justice, he is charged with causing $25 million in damages to victims.

Who is IntelBroker?

West built a reputation in the cybercriminal underground. Since 2021, the hacker has operated under the alias IntelBroker, moving through cybercrime forums to sell stolen data. More than 80 confirmed data sales and leaks were traced back to him, affecting different industries.

IntelBroker quickly became a recognizable name on BreachForums, a popular hackers marketplace. By mid-2024, West became the forum's administrator.

The attacker is known for multiple high-profile breaches and data leaks. In 2024, IntelBroker claimed attacks on Cisco, Tesla, Apple, AMD, and, before that, Home Depot, General Electric, PandaBuy, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and Facebook Marketplace.

Authorities say West made several mistakes in January 2023 that helped to tie his online persona to his real life. He allegedly reused the same IP address for hacking activity and personal browsing.

At one point, investigators noticed his home internet connection was watching specific YouTube videos. Soon after, the IntelBroker account shared those exact videos on BreachForums.

For his transactions, West used the monero cryptocurrency. However, an undercover law enforcement officer soon approached him, posing as a buyer.

The officer persuaded West to accept bitcoin instead of Monero for a stolen data sale. This was the biggest mistake for IntelBroker, as, unlike monero, bitcoin leaves a public ledger. Once the payment went through, investigators were able to trace where the money moved to.

The US Department of Justice charged West with operating the IntelBroker identity, infiltrating victim networks, stealing data, and selling it for profit.
