Elon Musk says he may build Iron Man suit after Trump assassination attempt

Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has suggested he may build an Iron Man-style armored suit after claiming that he was the target of two attempts against his life in the past eight months.

“Maybe it’s time to build that flying metal suit of armor,” Musk said on X after fans expressed concern about the billionaire’s safety following the assassination attempt against former US president Donald Trump.

Some users said that Musk should “beef up” his security after the shooting during Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One noted: “If they can come for Trump they will also come for you.”

“Dangerous times ahead,” the billionaire X owner said before adding that “two people (separate occasions) have already tried to kill me in the past 8 months.”

“They were arrested with guns about 20 mins drive from Tesla HQ in Texas,” Musk said without providing more details.

The comments came after Musk said he “fully” endorsed Trump as his pick for President after the assassination attempt on July 13th, blaming the Secret Service for failing to prevent the incident.

“The last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt,” Musk said.

Trump survived the attack after a bullet grazed his ear 15 minutes into his speech to supporters. A member of the crowd was killed and two others were critically injured. The authorities have named 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the shooter.

Musk is sometimes compared to a real-life Tony Stark by his fans, with Iron Man writer Mark Fergus once describing him as one of the inspirations behind Marvel’s billionaire superhero.

Musk has made a cameo appearance in Iron Man 2, which was released in 2010, and met with engineer Dylan Lange Edminston, who built his own prototype of the suit, in 2021.
