Jim Carrey’s appearance in Paris has shocked the internet, prompting questions as to the actor’s current whereabouts. Is he dead? Who is Alexis Stone? And should we have believed what the Truman Show actor was telling us all along?
Jim Carrey made a rare public appearance on Thursday (26th February) at the 51st Cesar Awards in Paris, where he received the Cesar d’honneur award for his lifetime dedication to film and cinema.
The reclusive, multi-award-winning actor reportedly lives off-grid and rarely makes public appearances, until now.
However, many social media users believe that the person who attended the awards ceremony wasn’t actually Carrey, but instead a clone.
These conspiracy theories have sparked heavy debates online, fueling posts that have received hundreds of thousands of views on platforms such as Instagram, X, and TikTok.
Did Jim Carrey get cosmetic surgery?
Social media users said that Carrey looks completely unrecognizable from his last public appearance in 2025.
“I think Jim had a facelift, that’s why he looks swollen, and honestly, he’s 64, of course, he looks different now,” said one X user.
“You can’t just convince yourself he got work done?” said another X user.
“That’s just his 2018 look and probably bad face work like Botox or a facelift.”
While some people said that this is likely just a result of cosmetic surgery, others truly believe that someone impersonated Carrey or that he had been replaced entirely.
Who is Alexis Stone, and did he impersonate Jim Carrey?
Special effects make-up artist Alexis Stone’s Instagram post should’ve cleared up everything anyone needed to know about the Carrey conspiracy. Yet it left social media users even more confused.
The vague post, captioned “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris,” suggests that the MUA dressed as Carrey and went to receive the award in Paris.
However, the post doesn’t seem legitimate, as the final slide shows what is supposedly the mask, dentures, and wig that Stone used to impersonate Carrey.
The strategic placement of the Eiffel Tower in the background alongside the image's grainy quality suggests it was generated using AI.
While many internet commentators and wannabe journalists have seen this as direct confirmation of the conspiracy, others have argued against it.
“His post does not confirm it at all; it’s intentionally vague because that’s actually Jim Carrey. The Alexis guy doesn’t do voices from what I can tell, and even if he did, how would he fake the voice this well?!” one user said under Rozbiani’s post.
“No, wtf are you saying? Jim Carrey never acknowledged this!”

One user ran the last image through an app that says whether AI was used, and the person posted the results.
“The proof was an AI photo of the mask.”
However, whether Stone really impersonated Carrey remains unknown, and users continued to conjure theories suggesting the person who attended the awards wasn’t the real deal.
Did you notice which hand Jim Carrey used to sign autographs with?
TikTok users have also fueled theories using a different angle.
This time, people are suggesting that Carrey's signing with his non-dominant hand is a clear indication that someone was playing the part on his behalf.
It’s known that Carrey is left-handed. However, the TikToker claims that Carrey was using his right hand to sign autographs at the Cesar Awards.
Other TikTokers agreed that “this isn’t Jim” and echoed the idea that this person was using their right hand to sign autographs.
This sparked a flood of TikToks claiming that this was a total conspiracy that needed to be debunked.
Social media users didn’t stop at one conspiracy; they fabricated dozens to strengthen their case.
Jim Carrey's eye colour conspiracy
One theory is that the person who received the Cesar d’honneur award seemed to have green eyes, whereas Carrey is known to have striking brown eyes.
“I’m not saying it’s a clone or some dumb Illuminati sh*t, but for some reason, he’s clearly using a body double to stand in for him…there’s no plastic surgery that changes your eyes.”
“This was a Jim Carrey body double, first of all, Jim Carrey’s eyes have always been dark brown,” echoed another X user.
“Yeah…umm NO! This is NOT Jim Carrey! Jim Carrey has dark brown eyes, for one…this copycat/clone creature has light green eyes.
One X user claims that what Jim Carrey has been telling us all along is true, that he is really dead, and that Hollywood has created a double of Carrey to cover up the conspiracy.
“Different eyes, different energy, different soul. Not the wild, chaotic Jim we grew up with. Coincidence? Or Hollywood’s classic disclosure trick: say the truth right in our faces so we laugh it off as “crazy”?”
What was Jim Carrey trying to tell us?
Alongside these conspiracy theories, old footage of Carrey from the Jimmy Fallon show and other interviews seems to confirm what users are suggesting.
Is Jim Carrey actually dead, and Hollywood is attempting to cover it up?
The multi-award-winning actor has previously claimed that he doesn’t exist, that he has been playing characters that include Jim Carrey, and that he is dead.
While social media users seem to take his words at face value, there may be a simple explanation that requires a little context.
Carrey reportedly experienced a spiritual awakening around 2009, which seemed to deepen following the death of his girlfriend in 2015.
At this time, fans put Carrey’s outbursts down to grief, but it seems that his work with spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle may be the reason for these proclamations.
Carrey appeared alongside spiritual teacher and philosopher Tolle, whose main focus is on dissolving the ego.
Despite Carrey openly discussing his spiritual awakening, which was uploaded to Tolle’s YouTube channel, many people believe that Carrey was sharing some kind of secret message.
This conspiracy theory has been revived as the current Carrey said in an interview that he “is dead.”
Are the Jim Carrey conspiracy theories real?
While social media users work diligently to uncover the truth, Carrey has not spoken publicly about the claims and is unlikely to do so.
However, there have been no credible reports suggesting that Carrey is dead and has been replaced by a clone.
Therefore, we must assume that Carrey is alive and well, likely hanging out in Hawaii, where he reportedly lives full-time.
