According to Musk, the delivery was fully autonomous, with no people in the car at all and no remote operators in control at any point.
This is the first fully autonomous drive with no people in the car or remotely operating the car on a public highway, claims Tesla CEO.
The delivery came one day ahead of the set date, June 28th, which will be Musk’s 54th birthday.
During the initial testing phase, Musk said that the tests had not seen any "incidents” and added that a launch would start with 10 or 20 Model Y vehicles.
The news comes just days after Tesla launched its robotaxi service on June 22nd, with Musk saying that he expects millions of robotaxis on the road in the future, according to reports.
Although just days later, a Tesla robotaxi was caught on camera allegedly using the wrong lane and speeding by another driverless vehicle.
It currently remains unclear whether autonomous car deliveries will find a permanent place in Tesla’s services.
