Data managers‘ breach exposes nearly 47K individuals

Renkim Corporation, a Michigan-based data management and communications firm, had attackers breach its systems, exposing the personal data of thousands.

The company noticed unauthorized activity in its systems on March 3rd, 2025, proceeding to “terminate that activity and secure our network environment.” However, after hiring third-party cybersecurity pros, the company learned that attackers breached Renkim’s systems a day earlier.

The information submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office notes that nearly 47,000 individuals were impacted.

According to a data breach notification letter the company sent out to affected individuals, since Renkim provides print and electronic communications solutions for businesses, they had the victims’ data. That strongly points to Renkim’s business clients’ customers being exposed in the attack.

The exposed details include:

  • Full names
  • Contact information
  • Client names
  • Account numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers (SSNs)

While the company noticed that dates of birth and SSNs were only exposed for some of the impacted individuals, there are still ample details for attackers to exploit.

For example, malicious actors could attempt to use stolen information to create fake identities, endangering the privacy of affected individuals. More dedicated threat actors could utilize leaked details for identity theft and phishing attacks, impersonating legitimate businesses.

“We hired third-party experts to address this situation, investigate the unauthorized activity, and further secure our systems to protect your information. We also notified law enforcement,” the company’s breach notification letter said.

To help victims with potential privacy issues, Renkim said it will offer complimentary identity theft protection services.
