Hey, Siri, do I qualify for Apple’s $95 million settlement?

Have you used Apple products during the last ten years? If so, it could be that the company owes you money.

Apple product users with Siri enabled can file a claim to get a part from the company’s $95 million settlement after being accused of using the voice assistant to listen to its users.

The lawsuit was started in 2021 by Fumiko Lopez, an Apple user from California, and other consumers who claimed that their private conversations were listened to by Siri.

The confidential information was then given to third parties and used to target Apple users by showing ads.

While the company denies all the claims and doesn’t see anything unlawful in this situation, earlier this year, it agreed to the $95 million settlement, with plaintiffs only now able to file a claim to get the money.

Users eligible for the part of the settlement are those who owned Siri-enabled devices, such as an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, or Apple TV, between September 17th, 2014, and December 31st, 2024, and who encountered unexpected voice assistant activation during a private conversation.

At the settlement site, it has been reported that a person can get up to $20 from the settlement for one device. Users can file a claim for up to five devices, amounting to a maximum of $100 from the company.

To file a claim, users either receive an email or a postcard with information about the settlement. They can submit the claim until July 2nd of this year.

Those who weren’t notified about the settlement but still qualify can file the claim via the settlement website.

Users can expect their money later this year as the final settlement approval hearing is planned on August 1st, 2025. The payouts could be delayed if the company decides to make an appeal.

The situation also prompted a discussion online, with users expressing interest in how much money they could actually get from the settlement.

“I'm ready for my $1.25!” joked one Redditor after users debated whether the $95 million would be enough to cover the payment for every user who filed a claim.

“It's a good thing executives weren't held accountable and this settlement is a drop in the bucket compared to their revenue. We wouldn't want corporations to be afraid of doing whatever the hell they want,” wrote another user, hinting that this situation doesn’t change much for the company.

“So the price for Apple to eavesdrop on all its users is 90 mil. Everything is for sale, and we own nothing,” shared another netizen.
