Boston Dynamics is testing the boundaries of what its robot, Atlas, can achieve, with the humanoid robot already mastering the art of manipulating its surroundings.
The video shows Atlas completing necessary but menial tasks like organizing gym equipment and carrying loads up makeshift stairs.
Despite its animatronic-like movements, Atlas is very adept at completing these tasks. It can swiftly carry planks of wood from one area to the next and pick up small weighted objects, all while doing a little dance.
The description of the video says that Atlas is getting better at manipulating the world around it.
“From stools to tools, this montage is just scratching the surface of how Atlas is getting better at manipulating its world,” Boston Dynamics said.
“We’re excited to show everyone the progress we’ve made, and look forward to continue to share the journey ahead with our next generation Atlas humanoid robot.”
Atlas is only getting better as the humanoid robot and parkour legend goes electric. Boston Dynamics has retired its hydraulic predecessor in a move to commercialize the technology.
Through the iterative process of creating Atlas, perhaps it does live up to its self-proclaimed title of “the world’s most dynamic humanoid robot,” as it’s now fully electric and designed for the real world.
The company’s use of specific hardware aims to provide the robot with power and balance, as well as athletic ability and agility. Boston Dynamics seemingly wants humanoid robots like Atlas to be commonplace.
Boston Dynamics is a robotics company that specializes in robots that “enrich people’s lives.”
“We see this work as the next step in the evolution of machines that reduce the danger, repetition, and physically difficult aspects of work,” Boston Dynamics said.
