Google has officially released NotebookLM’s tool Audio Overview, allowing users to guide a podcast.
The demo version of Google’s NotebookLM feature Audio Overview, released about a month ago, surprised many with its ability to generate human-like podcasts.
Once users upload text documents, slides, or links, the tool generates a podcast that is hardly distinguishable from a real one in just a few minutes.
Now, Google is officially releasing its new tool and adding customization features.
After users upload their text, diagram, or other information, they will see suggested questions about what the AI host can discuss. There is also a customize button that allows one to focus on specific topics or adjust the expertise level to suit one's audience.
I tried the new feature with my recent article about Nintendo’s $100 alarm clock, asking it to make a podcast focusing on Alarmo’s price and how it could affect sales in different regions.
In a few minutes, NotebookLM generated a nearly 15-minute podcast in which podcast hosts discussed the mentioned points.
It was impressive to hear how AI-generated hosts seamlessly incorporated price points and other features into their conversations, though after several minutes, the podcast became a little repetitive.
If you want to try the new Google tool yourself, you can go to the NotebookLM website, press “create a new notebook,” upload your document, or share a link.
In its blog post, Google notes that it will not use your data to train its AI models.
In addition to the official NotebookLM release, Google will soon launch an additional NotebookLM version for business.
The company claims that NotebookLM Business will be offered via Google Workspace with enhanced features for businesses, universities, and organizations.
