The deal between the two companies has been postponed due to unexpected trademark issues.
A month after it was announced that OpenAI is acquiring io Products, an artificial intelligence hardware company founded by Jony Ive, the content announcing the partnership has been removed from the web because of a possible trademark infringement.
Netizens noticed that the video and website that included news about OpenAI acquiring io Products for $6.5 billion were no longer there, raising questions about the agreement.
The reason behind the sudden removal of the publicly available material was the fact that io has been involved in a trademark dispute, reports Bloomberg.
The company is now temporarily banned from using the “io” name due to another company with a similar name, iyO Inc.
This company also works with artificial intelligence, creating AI-powered devices. iyO is known for its iyO One device, an AI-powered computer controlled through voice commands.
The company started a lawsuit against OpenAI after its CEO, Sam Altman, and Apple’s former chief design officer, Jony Ive, shared the news about their partnership.
The two companies were supposed to seal the acquisition deal this summer, with OpenAI also getting a team of specialists from io.
