Apple Intelligence is coming to you this fall

A suite of Apple Intelligence features will finally be making its way into a bevy of Apple devices starting next month. Cybernews has the 411 on what innovative features to look out for.

Apple announced a fresh line-up of products on Monday during the “It’s Glowtime” launch event, which was pre-recorded and live-streamed from its Cupertino headquarters in California.

The company unveiled the much-anticipated iPhone 16 series, the Apple Watch Series 10, and a 4th generation of Air Pods as part of its latest roster.

Adding to the fun, Apple users will also get an accelerated experience with Apple Intelligence features, which will be rolled out to all iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices starting next month.

The AI-generated “personal intelligence system” is said to combine the power of generative models with personal context, producing an “incredibly useful and relevant” user experience.

Apple says the new features will start rolling out next month on iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, with additional features launching in the coming months.

The cutting-edge AI tools will only be available in English for Apple users in the US for now, hitting Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK in December.

Additional English-language support for Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish will come sometime next year, the company said.

Apple Intelligence, a new era

Apple stated that October’s feature rollout will include helpful Writing Tools, Mail and notification summaries, a more natural and flexible Siri, a Clean Up tool in Photos, and more.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the devices have been designed from the ground up for Apple Intelligence integration, calling it “a new era for the iPhone.”

“Built for Apple Intelligence, the iPhone 16 lineup delivers a powerful, personal, and private experience right at your fingertips,” Cook posted on X on Monday.

All four new smartphones – the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max – will be able to run Apple’s AI and feature internal and camera improvements while maintaining a similar design to previous models, the tech company said.

With Apple Intelligence, users are expected to gain "more onscreen awareness" and be given the ability to "take hundreds of new actions in and across Apple and third-party apps."

New design elements, such as for Siri on iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay, boast a glowing light that wraps around the edge of the device screen when activated. Mac users can now place Siri anywhere on their desktop and flip easily between text and voice.

Siri also comes with “richer language-understanding capabilities,” allowing it to recognize a user’s speech even when they stumble over words, as well as maintaining context between multiple conversations.

With Writing Tools, “users can refine their words by rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text nearly everywhere they write, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps,” according to the announcement. In the Notes and Phone apps, users will be able to take advantage of AI integration to quickly record, transcribe, and summarize audio.

Other innovative tools rolling out this fall include Image Playground, where users will be able to create “images in moments,” and Image Wand, which will allow users to create images directly from just a sketch.

Future users will also gain the ability to create original Genmojis by simply typing a description, or by selecting a photo of a friend or family member.

For Photos, the new Clean Up tool will “identify and remove distracting objects in the background of a photo, without accidentally altering the subject.

With Memories, movies can be created by just typing in a description and its search function will allow users to find specific moments in clips with a natural voice request.

Apple combines privacy and AI

According to the tech behemoth, Apple Intelligence was designed to "protect users’ privacy at every step" with its new Private Cloud Compute – labeled by the company as a "fundamental breakthrough in server-based intelligence."

“To run more complex requests that require more processing power, Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security of Apple devices into the cloud,” ensuring that a user’s data is “never stored or shared” with the company, Apple said.

Apple device users will also get free access to ChatGPT through Siri, without having to create an account and be happy to know their IP addresses will be hidden, and user requests will not be stored with the Microsoft-backed OpenAI.

Besides a fresh iPhone release, the Glowtime event introduced an upgraded version of the Apple Watch series, including a new sleek black polished titanium design option for the Apple Watch 10 and an updated Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Users of the Apple Watch 10 Series will be able to renew their earbuds by choosing from the upgraded Apple Airpods lineup, which includes AirPods 4, AirPods Max, and AirPods Pro 2, Apple said.
