Sam Altman announces sexy chats for ChatGPT

OpenAI will soon be relaxing its rules for ChatGPT by allowing adults to have sexy conversations with the chatbot.

Following controversies around ChatGPT for facilitating teen suicide, OpenAI was forced to put strict guardrails on the chatbot.

In an X post, found by The Verge, OpenAI's chief Sam Altman said that the company made “ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure (it was) being careful with mental health issues.”

These rules came after Altman was sued over a teenager who followed suicide instructions from ChatGPT.

While Altman reflects on “the seriousness of the issue,” he said that the restrictions made the chatbot “less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems.”

Now, OpenAI's chief, Sam Altman, has said that the company’s “treat adults like adults” principle will take full effect this December.

“In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o,” Altman said in the post.

Altman claims that the new update will let users interact with a chatbot that uses more emojis or a chatbot companion that acts like a friend.

However, users will seemingly have to opt in, as the new features are supposedly not intended to encourage more usage.

Not only will users have an updated chatbot companion, but chats may also turn sexual, as the new update will also include erotic chats for adults, once age verification systems are implemented.

This will come in December and will allow for erotic conversations with verified adults, as ChatGPT is seemingly following in Elon Musk’s footsteps after Grok launched spicy AI companions.

X users commented their concerns on the post, with some saying that they want to be treated like an adult without “perv-mode” being activated.

Altman responded, clarifying that the update will need to be turned on, and users will have to “ask for it” if they want to engage in erotic conversations.

Another user said it’s “about time” ChatGPT got this update, as while it used to feel like you were actually talking to a person, it turned into a “compliance bot.”

“If it can be made fun again without losing the guardrails, that's a huge win. People don't want chaos, just authenticity,” the user said.

Altman responded by saying that OpenAI “needed (and will continue to need) to learn how to protect those users, and then with enhanced tools for that, adults that are not at risk of serious harm (mental health breakdowns, suicide, etc) should have a great deal of freedom in how they use ChatGPT.”
