White House chief of staff Susie Wiles met with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Friday to discuss the company’s new Mythos AI model, amid an ongoing battle between the Trump administration and Anthropic over the blacklisting of its Claude AI.
The administration is discussing AI models and software security with top AI firms, the AP reported, citing a White House official who wished to remain anonymous.
The official also shared that any technology that will be potentially used by the federal government would require a technical period for evaluation.
The White House said the meeting was “introductory,” calling it “productive and constructive,” according to CNN, saying in a statement:“We discussed opportunities for collaboration, as well as shared approaches and protocols to address the challenges associated with scaling this technology.”
“The conversation also explored the balance between advancing innovation and ensuring safety. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and will host similar discussions with other leading AI companies.”
Anthropic also called the meeting about “cybersecurity, America’s lead in the AI race, and AI safety” “productive”, adding:
“The meeting reflected Anthropic’s ongoing commitment to engaging with the U.S. government on the development of responsible AI. We are grateful for their time and are looking forward to continuing these discussions.”
This week marked the first time Claude surpassed rival ChatGPT in US mobile app downloads, according to market research firm Sensor Tower, cited by the AP.
The relationship between Anthropic and the Trump administration has been highly contentious. In February, Trump ordered the government to stop using Anthropic’s technology as the company refused to loosen ethical and safety guidelines on its Claude AI.

Particularly, Anthropic refused to allow the use of its technology in fully autonomous weapons and the surveillance of US citizens.
In a message posted on X, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that he is directing the Department of War to designate Anthropic a supply-chain risk to national security. Anthropic is now involved in legal battles with the administration over the blacklisting label.
German banks are currently examining risks around Anthropic's new model, amid worries that it could fuel cyberattacks.
Finance ministers, central bankers, and financiers have also expressed concerns about Mythos, specifically that it could undermine the security of financial systems, the BBC reported.
The US Treasury had raised the issue with its major banks, urging them to test their systems before Anthropic publicly releases Mythos.
