German city’s IT systems taken offline after cyberattack

The German municipality of Ludwigshafen has taken its IT systems offline due to a cyberattack. The city’s websites and online services are currently unavailable.

According to a statement, on the morning of November 6th, 2025, the city’s IT systems sounded an alarm because “serious irregularities” were detected.

Emergency protocols were activated immediately, including the proactive deactivation of all systems to prevent further damage. Forensic analysts were called in to investigate the nature and scope of the incident.

“Measures are ongoing to rule out infiltrations and gradually restore the systems,” the city of Ludwigshafen responded last Friday.

Due to the city’s websites and online services being currently down, the municipality is unavailable by phone or email to its citizens. Administrative offices remain open, and scheduled appointments will proceed as planned. Additionally, street cleaning and waste collection remain unaffected.

The city administration reiterates that there’s no indication that any citizen data has been leaked and that the city’s IT staff continue to work on examining the remaining areas of the data network for possible infiltrations.

A complete review of the city’s data network will continue for at least the entire upcoming week, possibly even longer.

Some services may be gradually brought back online, but it’s hard to say when this will happen. The administration promises to keep everyone posted.

As of writing, no ransomware operation has claimed responsibility for the cyberattack on Ludwigshafen.
