Severance executive producer Ben Stiller says there are “two specific ideas” that could turn the cult show into a franchise.
Stiller teased potential spinoffs in an interview with Variety, saying “there are two specific ideas – that I won’t tell you.”
He added that both had been discussed internally as possible series.
He was “coy” when asked what stage of development the spinoff ideas were in, or whether they’d been discussed with Apple, according to Variety. “They are nascent,” he was quoted as saying.
In more good news for fans of the show, Stiller also said it’d “be great to have a Severance video game” – an idea backed by the show’s star Adam Scott, who told Variety the series “lends itself to one.”
Merchandise that's “bespoke and specific to the show” – think Lumon keyboards – are also being discussed, according to the interview.
Severance, a science fiction workplace drama, follows employees at the biotechnology firm Lumon Industries who have undergone a medical procedure called “severance.”
The process ensures they retain no memories of the outside world while at work – and none of their work life when outside. This creates two distinct personalities: the “innie,” who exists only within Lumon, and the “outie,” who lives outside of work.
Severance was renewed for a third season earlier this year and the writing process is currently underway in Los Angeles.
