Radiohead ticket sale has fans raging on social media

Radiohead have revealed dates for their latest tour, and fans are desperately scrambling to buy tickets. However, things are not exactly going according to plan.

“F**king ridiculous, just got to the end of the queue for Radiohead tickets and got this, thanks, I’m gonna k*ll myself,” ranted a Radiohead fan via X.

The English rock quintet recently announced that they’re going on tour in Madrid, Spain, Bologna, Italy, London, England, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Berlin, Germany.

The band will appear in 20 shows across Europe, making a comeback from their last tour in 2018.

However, fans are fuming at the long and laborious process of purchasing tickets.

My colleague actually bought tickets to their Berlin show and said that he needed to apply for a code to enter the queue last Friday.

His entry into the Radiohead lottery was successful, meaning he entered the next stage to purchase the tickets. However, it’s not guaranteed that those with codes will actually be able to buy them.

That’s why Radiohead fans have been raging on X, as they wait in the queue for an extended period of time just to receive an error message or not advance any further towards buying tickets.

“Do you get that feeling that trying to get Radiohead tickets is going to be quite a task?” said one X user, who seemingly couldn’t get past the initial stage of the queue.

“Seeing people say they’ve got tickets for Radiohead while I’m still in the queue is slowly killing me,” said another distressed user.

Other users complained that their access had been restricted after waiting in the queue for a long time.

One user accused Radiohead of “pulling out all the stops to avoid selling tickets” as the experience has involved “error after error after error.”

“I've followed all the instructions, done exactly what they said, and still get stuck,” the X user said.

Radiohead targets touters

The reason for the laborious ticket-buying process is Radiohead’s attack on touts after more than 1,000 potentially fake tickets for their tour went on sale before the official release date, The Guardian reports.

Ticket touts are people or groups that buy tickets to events in bulk to resell them at inflated prices.

To curb these “exploitative” touts, Radiohead implemented the code strategy to prevent bots and even real people from snatching tickets from die-hard fans.

However, many fans experienced disappointment after they didn’t receive a code. The Radiohead lottery is a cruel mistress.

However, the band does have a valid point as fans have been repeatedly screwed over when attempting to buy tickets to their favourite shows.

For example, the Federal Trade Commission sued a ticket broker who apparently sold out Taylor Swift’s concert, leaving fans devastated.

The broker and its affiliates allegedly bought 380,000 tickets worth $57 million, including for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and resold them at steep markups, Cybernews reports.
