It’s Valentine's Day, and romance may well be dead. Research suggests that social media might be ruining our relationships.
Instead of buying you flowers, your partner may follow OnlyFans models on social media.
Your partner could confront you about a “deal-breaking” post on Instagram or bring into question your fidelity due to your potentially sketchy behavior on social media.
While social media can help us connect with others and even rival dating apps when it comes to finding love, new research by ManyChat shows that the breakdown of relationships starts with social media.
Are they cheating?
Almost 80% of respondents have questioned their partner's fidelity due to social media.
Whether this is due to their online behaviors or social media habits, the majority of people surveyed don’t trust that their partners aren’t cheating on them.
These days, we’re chronically online, and we can track our partner's online habits and analyze when things seem out of the ordinary.
Thoughts like, “Why is he posting a selfie? He never does that,” or “Why is she following this guy?” might make you wonder whether your partner is cheating.
Even if they aren’t, it can certainly still cause a rift in the relationship if you begin to question your partner's every move.
Bikini pics are a deal-breaker
It might not just be your partner who’s uncomfortable with you posting half-naked pictures on Instagram.
In fact, 63% of respondents have broken up with their partner over a post on social media.
Maybe you found your partner's Reddit post about all the reasons that they don’t find you attractive, or maybe that bikini picture was the final straw.
While 37% of people wouldn’t consider this a deal-breaker, most people see it as a punishable offense, enough to end a significant relationship.
However, men are more likely to break up with their partner for posting something risque than women are.
Fancy following an OF model?
While it’s not uncommon to pass through thirst traps of OnlyFans models, now commonly known as “bops” or “mattress actresses,” it might give you peace of mind that your partner isn’t following them…or are they?
The survey showed that roughly 19% of respondents revealed that they follow adult content creators even though they’re in a relationship.
The average number of married people who follow adult content creators is 14%. The survey showed that people who are engaged may be less likely to follow OnlyFans models.
Most of the people who took the survey followed female adult content creators, and the main age group that followed OnlyFans models, bops, and mattress actresses was older – 30% were 55 or older.
Although almost one in five were between the ages of 18 and 24.
ManyChat, the marketing platform that employs chatbots to help businesses get the most out of social media, looked into how social media affects our relationships.
The survey asked 1000 people from the United States between the ages of 18 and 90 about the impact of social media on romantic relationships.
