The Oscars 2026 viral moments: A-Listers snubbed, big wins, and weird teeth grace the red carpet

The Academy Awards have just hosted its 98th Oscars, and with that comes viral moments that will keep A-Listers and the Academy in the headlines for days following the ceremony.
Here are some of our favourite moments from this year's Academy Awards.
Michael B. Jordan was In-N-Out of the Oscars
The race for Best Actor at the Oscars this year was on, and there was no clear winner in sight.
Actors Michael B. Jordan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothee Chalamet, Ethan Hawke, and Wagner Moura were all competing for the title, and some left the ceremony a little happier than others.
The votes were cast, and it was decided that Sinners star, Michael B. Jordan, should be awarded the title of Best Actor.
Jordan, who played twins Smoke and Stack in the genre-bending vampire flick, gave a speech thanking his family, who were in attendance, and Sinners director Ryan Coogler for giving him “the opportunity and the space to be seen.”
Well, Jordan was in fact seen at the California burger chain In-N-Out, brandishing his Oscar while fans freaked out in the background.
TikTok videos featuring Jordan began circulating online, showing dozens of people surrounding the star as he enjoyed the burger chain’s offerings.
In the videos, Jordan is seen taking selfies with fans while he’s sitting in a booth, surrounded by people taking pictures.
While Jordan is congratulated by fans in a fast-food restaurant, another Best Actor nominee gets slammed on social media.
Timothee “Shallowman” slammed at the Oscars, leaving with nothing
Marty Supreme actor Timothee Chalamet went on an unorthodox media tour to promote the A24 film, which had already brought in hundreds of millions at the box office.
However, one moment that shocked users and may have cost Chalamet the win was his comment at the opera and the ballet.
In essence, Chalamet said, “Who cares about the opera and the ballet?” while suggesting that these art forms are dying out and, perhaps, don’t need to be kept alive.
This sparked outrage online, as people saw Chalamet’s proclamations as narrow-minded and shallow.
If Chalamet’s loss to Michael B. Jordan wasn’t enough, social media users took to their respective platforms to blast Chalamet and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.
One X user claims that Chalamet left the Oscars early after Marty Supreme lost all of its nine nominations.
It’s unclear as to whether Chalamet dipped out of the ceremony early, but it is certain that he left the awards show empty-handed.
Unfortunately for Chalamet, he was the butt of most jokes at the ceremony, as Oscars host Conan O’Brien said that “security is pretty tight tonight. I’m told there are concerns of attacks from both the opera and ballet communities.”
Attacks on the Marty Supreme star were coming from all angles, as social media users accused him of being shallow and acting like “another Kardashian.”
If the night couldn’t get worse for Chalamet, many social media users claimed that he took a fall on the stairs at the Oscars.
However, this is a classic Hollywood award ceremony meme that resurfaces every so often. So, Chalamet didn’t fall at all.
Anna Wintour snubs Anne Hathaway?
The intimidating fashion icon, Anna Wintour, was asked to present the award for the Best Costume Design, which was won by Kate Hawley, who did the costumes for Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein.
Alongside Wintour was Devil Wears Prada star Anne Hathaway, who stood nervously next to the former Editor in Chief of Vogue magazine.
While some social media users were stunned by Wintour addressing Hathaway as Emily, seemingly forgetting the A-List actor's name altogether, many others caught on to the devilish marketing ploy used to promote the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
Wintour was considered the main inspiration for the character of Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep), who is the icy editor of the prestigious Runway magazine in the 2006 film.
So, the pair did a little back and forth on stage to promote The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is due to release in May of this year.
So, the former fashion editor did, in fact, snub Hathaway at the Oscars this year. However, it was all meticulously planned.
Although, as one X user pointed out, Wintour missed the opportunity of a lifetime when asked to judge Hathaway’s Oscars outfit.
Jack O’Connell commits red carpet sin
Sinners was in the spotlight at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony after Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor, and the vampire flick went home with multiple awards for Best Original Screenplay, Cinematography, and Original Score.
However, there was one loss for Sinners (as decided by the general public).
Skins actor Jack O’Connell, who played Remmick, the main villain in Sinners, took to the red carpet brandishing some pretty interesting teeth.
Yes. O’Connell did wear blood-soaked fangs to the Oscars. And yes. Fans were appalled.
“I’m SICK,” responded one X user to the picture of O’Connell in fangs.
“He really wore fangs?” another user said.
While some grimaced, others openly embraced O’Connell’s bold look, saying that the actor can happily “bite and feast” on certain fans who declared that this is “kinda hot.”
These comments didn’t seem to rattle the star as he was seen taking a “glambot” photo at the event, without the special FX gnashers.
K-Pop star cut off mid-speech
The team behind K-Pop Demon Hunters' Oscar-winning song “Golden” was seemingly cut off mid-speech at the awards ceremony.
This win was particularly impressive, as it's the first time in the Academy Awards' 98-year history that a K-pop song has won Best Original Song.
The moment was cut short by production, which abruptly cut to a commercial break just as Yu Han Lee, a member of the songwriting team, took the microphone.
Despite the abrupt ending, one of the singers of “Golden” said backstage that the team is grateful and honored.
However, singer Ejae said that she needed to thank others onstage but “didn’t get to because they cut us off,” according to Deadline.
Social media users went online to slam the Academy, saying that cutting the “Golden” team off mid-speech was “so disrespectful.”
