Wordle fan and funnyman Jimmy Fallon is helping bring the hit New York Times game to television, with journalist Savannah Guthrie as host.
NBC, which airs The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, is piloting the show based on a widely popular online trivia game that attracts billions of players every year, according to Deadline.
The show is currently filming in the UK, with Fallon involved in its adaptation through his Electric Hot Dog production company, which is working alongside Universal Television Alternative Studio and The New York Times on the project.
It’s understood that Today presenter Savannah Guthrie will host the show, but there are few other details regarding the adaptation of the widely popular game.
The New York Times had begun exploring the idea of a Wordle television show after it acquired the game, created by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle in 2022, Deadline reported.
It chose to partner with Fallon for the project, who previously said he was “addicted” to the game and once spent a whole segment on The Tonight Show solving the puzzle in front of the audience.
Despite President Donald Trump calling on NBC to fire Fallon, a Wordle television game would only add to his growing portfolio of shows produced for the network, including On Brand, Password, and That’s My Jam.
Wordle gives players six tries to guess a hidden five-letter word and has exploded in popularity in recent years. It was played 5.3 billion times in 2024, up from 4.8 billion a year prior.
