HAMMER VENTUS 5G challenges the rugged smartphone stereotypes

Key takeaways:

Unveiled at IFA Berlin 2026, HAMMER VENTUS 5G caught the Cybernews team's attention for its different approach to rugged smartphones. Instead of making the phone bulky, HAMMER kept it slim while still offering serious protection. And because of that, it earned the Cybernews Spotlight Award in the Smartphone category.

VENTUS 5G is built to handle everyday accidents and tougher environments that would challenge a regular smartphone. Here is how.

Its screen is protected by SCHOTT Xensation Up glass, while the phone itself also has an IP69 rating. That means dust has little chance of getting inside, and the phone can withstand strong streams of water rather than just light splashes or rain.

HAMMER also designed VENTUS around the MIL-STD-810H military standard, which covers resistance to drops, shocks, and extreme temperatures. For example, the phone is rated for drops up to 5’ (1.5 meters).

And the protection doesn’t stop with a phone. It also includes a custom-designed protective case. It features HAMMER’s BumpAIR reinforced air-chamber corners, which absorb impact energy and further increase protection. The case also meets MIL-STD-810H requirements, giving VENTUS 5G another layer of protection without hiding its design.

Rugged, but delivers a modern smartphone experience

HAMMER has taken VENTUS 5G outside the usual rugged-phone box. At just 8.2mm thick and 172g, it has a slimmer, lightweight feel. Just like a regular smartphone. And it doesn’t mean it will impact the battery life.

VENTUS 5G uses a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, providing plenty of capacity while keeping the phone's weight down. When the battery runs low, 45W fast charging can take it from 0 to 100% in less than an hour.

The phone also has enough power for everyday use. Its MediaTek Dimensity 7100 processor and 8GB of DDR5 RAM keep apps running smoothly, make switching between them easier, and handle multimedia and games efficiently.

VENTUS 5G also goes beyond the basic cameras and displays we usually expect from rugged phones. It has a 108MP main camera, a 32MP front camera, and an 8MP night-vision camera, offering more options for photos in different conditions. And its 120Hz AMOLED display makes scrolling and animations feel smoother and delivers vibrant colors and deep blacks.
