CES 2026: this $600 scale may indicate you have hypertension

Withings, a French-based electronics company, has revealed its latest addition to the smart scale category: the Body Scan 2.

The device is capable of notifying users about possible hypertension, or high blood pressure, and measuring heart pumping efficiency.

The company states that the scale, priced at $600 in the US, can “decode” signals sent by the body via more than 60 biomarkers in “just 90 seconds.”

The device can detect glycemic, or blood sugar, dysregulation that may indicate diabetes. Users can also choose which metrics they want to focus on and follow.

How does the smart scale track one's measurements? It looks and works like a regular weight scale for basic weight, but also features a handlebar used to take various measurements, such as body composition (fat, muscle, water, etc.), heart rate, stress levels, and metabolic health.

The scale is expected to be available for purchase in the second quarter, pending approval by the Food and Drug Administration, according to Bloomberg.

The device will also be sold in Europe, the UK, and Australia.

The company’s first scale was released in 2009. The latest Body Scale was released in 2023 and sold for $500.

For some time now, tech companies have been exploring ways to integrate blood pressure monitoring into their smart devices, potentially replacing traditional blood pressure monitoring devices.

Apple has released a blood pressure monitoring feature, while Samsung has launched a smartwatch that can monitor a user’s blood pressure.

However, such monitoring usually doesn’t work without calibration via a regular blood pressure monitoring device.
