Nvidia’s upcoming RTX GPU could cost more than $2500 under Trump

The GeForce RTX 5090 is currently estimated to cost $1800-1900, but Trump’s tariffs could increase the price by up to 50%.
It’s been more than two years since Nvidia debuted the GeForce RTX 40 graphic processing units (GPUs) series, which are highly rated by gamers. This means that it’s time for a new line of RTX GPUs.
In just over a week, Nvidia is expected to unveil the RTX 50, its GPUs made on Blackwell architecture.
The company’s CEO, Jensen Huang, will hold a keynote before CES 2025 officially starts where he is rumored to announce the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 GPUs at the event.
If the leaks are true, the RTX 5090 unsurprisingly will be by far the most powerful graphics card on the market.
According to trusted leaker kopite7kimi, the RTX 5090 is expected to have 32GB of DDR7 VRAM on a 512-bit memory bus. Twenty-one Cuda cores run on the GB-202-300-AI chip, and come with improved Ray Tracing, among other details.
Meanwhile, the RTX 5080 is expected to feature a GB203-400-AI chip, 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM on a 256-bit memory bus, and 10 752 Cuda cores.
One of the unanswered questions remains the GPU’s price.
History shows us that each new Nvidia graphics card comes with a slight price increase. Considering that the RTX 4090 launched at $1600, it is reasonable to expect the RTX 5090 to cost at least $1800.
However, as graphic cards are sourced in China, there is also a high probability that GPU prices will significantly increase due to Trump’s proposed tariffs, which may reach up to 60%.
Website Wccftech, based on news from local Chinese website Ctee, reports that both Nvidia and AMD are trying to ship their graphics cards to mainstream US markets before Trump’s presidency starts on January 20th in an attempt to avoid the tariffs.
An earlier report by the Consumer Technology Association forecasts that if 60% tariffs are imposed, laptop and tablet prices could increase by 46%, video game consoles by 40%, and smartphones by 26%.
Thus, a 40% rate on an estimated $1800 RTX 5090 price would be $2500.
