DOOM, Call of Duty, and Silent Hill make it onto the BAFTA Games Award 2026 longlist

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has an entirely different awards ceremony you’ve most likely never heard of.

BAFTA has announced its longlist for the 2026 Games Awards, where members of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts have selected 64 games to progress to the second round of voting.

BAFTA’s 1,700 games members have voted and comprised the longlist for the 2026 games awards

The BAFTAs usually focus on film and television in Britain and internationally. However, the association started its Games Awards back in 2024, which “celebrate creative excellence in video games.”

Those who judge the awards are “experienced games professionals working in the industry,” the association says.

The 64 selected games will progress to round two of voting to decide which games will be nominated.

The nominees will be announced mid-March, and the Games Awards itself will be held on April 17th, 2026.

Around 255 games released between November 2024 and November 2025 were considered for the BAFTA Games Awards.

The gaming professionals will begin judging the 64 games in February 2026.

How do the judges decide on the best game?

When progressing to round two, the games will be judged by BAFTA members to determine six nominations in each category, the BAFTA Games Awards rulebook reads.

Juries that judge the games are comprised of between nine and 12 experts in the gaming industry, led by a member or former member of the games committee.

Those experts are then sent copies of the longlisted games to be played ahead of the meeting, where the longlist will be discussed.

The meeting will decide on six nominations and the overall winner of the BAFTA Games Awards.

“The winner vote is undertaken as a blind vote within the jury, and BAFTA does not reveal information about the winners until it is announced within the ceremony,” the rulebook reads.

What categories make up the BAFTA Games Awards?
