LEGO has revealed a brand-new Nintendo-themed collectible: the Game Boy.
Following the success of the Game & Watch, the classic, grey-colored brick known as the Game Boy was first released in 1989. The portable handheld was immensely popular with gamers and sold over 118 million copies before it was discontinued in March 2003.
The Game Boy featured a dot-matrix display, a D-pad, Start and Select buttons, A and B action buttons, a volume rocker on the side, an LED indicator light, and a single speaker. The interchangeable cartridges essentially made the Game Boy a portable Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
More than a thousand games were released for the Game Boy, including several top-selling titles such as Super Mario Land, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Kirby’s Dream Land, and Tetris.
It’s no wonder LEGO has released a playset of this iconic gaming handheld.
The LEGO Game Boy is a near 1:1 scale replica of the original Game Boy. The set contains all the authentic details of the original, including the D-pad, Start and Select buttons, A and B action buttons, and LED indicator.
The playset also includes two brick-built games: Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. These games can actually be inserted into the slot on the back.
Lastly, the set contains what LEGO calls “lenticular screens,” which is a fancy way of saying the screens have a 3D effect built into them. The set includes three different screens: one display with the Nintendo logo, and a separate display for each brick-built game that’s included.
The LEGO Game Boy collector’s set has 421 LEGO pieces and has a selling price of $59.99. If you pre-order the LEGO Game Boy set today, it will be shipped on October 1st, 2025.
This isn’t the first memorable Nintendo-themed set that LEGO has released. It has also dropped the original NES system with a CRT TV, the Mighty Bowser set, the Piranha Plant, and more recently, the Mario Kart set.
