Nintendo has removed an adult-only island from Animal Crossing after five years.
One of Nintendo’s most beloved games, Animal Crossing, isn’t just for children. Adults enjoy playing the social simulation game for its cozy atmosphere and laid-back gaming style.
The game itself allows players to develop their own islands, with some pushing the boundaries of what is appropriate for a game that many think is mainly for kids.
One creator developed their island into an escape for adults, featuring an array of X-rated features.
Creator “churip_ccc” developed their island, which soon became a hotspot for players, streamers, and YouTubers to galavant around.
The island, which went undetected by Nintendo for five years, has since been shut down, according to a machine-translated X post found by Dexerto.
The creator said via X that the “dream address for the adult’s island was deleted by Nintendo” right before the latest Animal Crossing update.
“Churip_ccc” apologized to Nintendo or, rather, thanked it for “overlooking it for over five years.”
They also thanked everyone who came to view the island, including the streamers who feature it in their videos.
The island itself supposedly featured Japanese love hotels, brothels, smoking areas, and its very own red-light district.
In Animal Crossing, these areas wouldn’t be interactive, as they're only decorated to look like adult attractions.
However, Nintendo still decided to take it down, potentially due to the fact that Animal Crossing is a game that children can play.
Animal Crossing has an E rating from the ESRB, which means everyone can enjoy it.
While the adult areas on the island aren’t particularly interactive, they could expose children to adult themes they are too young to understand.
