Roblox is a predator's paradise, lawyers reveal

Roblox, the “child-friendly” gaming site, is beginning to unravel into a twisted web of child exploitation that spills out into the real world.

Roblox is currently being sued by a young girl, named in the lawsuit as Jane Doe, and her mother, after a pedophile lured Jane Doe into engaging in sexual acts in person after meeting on Roblox. Jane Doe was only 11 years old when her predator raped her.

This is not the only harrowing experience that Roblox has supposedly facilitated. One example presented in the lawsuit refers to a seven-year-old girl who was raped by two male avatars in the virtual space, specifically in a “playground.”

The lawsuit alleges that Roblox is aware and even encourages highly sexualized experiences on the site, despite presenting itself as a child and teen-focused platform.

Children can play in “condo games,” which are described as “predatory digital environments” that allow users to take off their virtual clothes and engage in “disturbing simulated sexual activities with other Roblox users.”

“They can also play games like “Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe,” which allows access to users as young as nine years old and enables users to simulate sexual activity in virtual bathrooms, as well as virtual strip clubs, where child avatars perform sexually explicit acts, like giving lap dances to patrons,” the lawsuit claims.

An investigation found that not only are children having simulated sexual experiences in the game, but young people are also able to engage with “other exploitative experiences” on Roblox.

Specifically, the 2024 Hidenburg investigation found that Roblox hosted over 600 experiences referencing disgraced musician Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “freak offs.”

At the time, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was also featured in Roblox experiences, one notably called “Escape to Epstein Island.”

Epstein, who died while being incarcerated for his crimes, was an American financier and child sex offender who famously owned Little Saint James island, which was rumoured to be visited by A-listers for the sole purpose of engaging in child sexual abuse.

At the time, the investigation didn’t gain much attention. But now that Jane Doe and her mother have sued Roblox, these sexualized experiences facilitated by Roblox are coming to the surface.

The lawsuit alleges that “Roblox played a direct role in enabling these rampant, sexually exploitative experiences.”

Lawyers say this after citing “leaked internal Roblox documents,” which reveal that the kids' gaming platform kept an eye on this type of content and made decisions regarding nudity and “how big of a bulge” was acceptable in the game.

The lawsuit reveals that pornographic categories have been created using Roblox’s tools and software.

Lawyers state that “the online environment that Roblox hosts and enables contradicts its

representations of providing a safe product, demonstrating Roblox’s blatant disregard for the safety of its youngest users, and revealing the company’s prioritization of user engagement over its fundamental duty to protect young users.”

A Roblox spokesperson told Cybernews that while it can't comment on pending litigation "Roblox is deeply committed to the safety and well-being of (its) community, with tens of millions having positive experiences every day."

"Protecting children is a top priority, and we invest significant resources in advanced safety technology, including a combination of machine learning and human moderation teams working 24/7 to detect and address inappropriate content and behavior," a Roblox spokesperson told Cybernews.

"We also provide significant resources for parents and do not allow any user-to-user image sharing or sexual conversation on our platform. We partner with law enforcement and other organizations that combat the sexual exploitation of children around the world."

"We are always evolving our safety practices to promote a secure and positive experience for everyone," the Roblox spokesperson concluded.
