Candace Owens and Erika Kirk meet amid assassination conspiracies

Conservative commentator Candace Owens has faced backlash from her supporters after meeting Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, following weeks of speculation about the activist's death.

Owens released a video where she gave a wrap-up of the 4.5-hour meeting, suggesting that she is not backtracking from her statements about Charlie Kirk’s murder.

The meeting came days after Erika Kirk, speaking on CBS News, had urged Owens to stop spreading rumours about her husband’s death

In an X post, she “had a very productive conversation,” promising that “more to come” from both of them.

What are the conspiracies about Charlie Kirk’s death?

Charlie Kirk, the founder and executive director of the conservative student organization Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was assassinated in September during an event at Utah Valley University. Shortly after his death, Erika Kirk assumed leadership of the organization.

Charlie Kirk’s death sent shockwaves across the US, drawing condemnations from his allies and opponents who denounced political violence.

The incident also became the basis for multiple conspiracy theories, some of which are peddled by Owens, a former TPUSA employee and friend of Charlie Kirk.

She has been alleging that the employees of TPUSA are complicit in the assassination and are engaging in a cover-up. Owens has also suggested that Kirk may have been killed by Israel’s spy agency Mossad. None of these claims has been shown to be true.

A 22-year-old, Tyler Robinson, was charged with aggravated murder of Kirk, for which prosecutors seek the death penalty.

Owens faces backlash from her supporters

Shortly after the meeting, Owens shared a TikTok video in which she assured she was “alive and totally fine,” calling the conversation very productive.

However, Owens’ supporters raised suspicions about what they called a change of tone. Some went as far as suggesting that the video wasn’t real, but was instead generated with artificial intelligence (AI).

“Oh boy. I think they got to Candace,” a user wrote, echoing widespread sentiment in TikTok’s comment section.

Many followers on YouTube were also disappointed, saying they have a hard time understanding what’s going on.

“Well, I think we have all just finally realized that we need to get off of social media. It's been nothing but a complete waste of time. What a disappointing distraction,” one YouTube user wrote.

Some X users joined the backlash, with one suggesting that Owens “has bent the knee to Erika Kirk.”
