Google has introduced “Search profiles” for publishers and content creators – dedicated profile pages that help users discover their content across platforms.
These new Search profiles, which are similar to social media, allow creators and publishers to showcase their latest articles, videos, and social posts. Google said that they are “a dedicated, shareable space to highlight content across platforms, and help audiences find accurate, up-to-date information about sources on Search.”
Users can access Search profiles via a creator or publisher’s knowledge panel on mobile by tapping the name of a publisher or creator on Discover, or through a direct URL.
They can include website and social media links, as well as recent videos and articles pulled from major social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Users will be able to follow publishers and creators and get more of their content in Discover.
Search profiles are currently available to “publishers and creators with a sizable following on at least one major social or video platform”, who can claim their profile and customize it. Claiming a profile may trigger the creation of a knowledge panel, the information box providing a quick snapshot of facts about a notable person, organization, or other entities.
Publishers and creators who already have a knowledge panel will be able to enhance it with the updated avatar, latest content, and a direct profile link.
Google said that the feature will first launch in the US, although the company plans to expand it to creators globally and introduce more features “to make profiles even more useful”.
“We look forward to seeing how these new profiles help publishers and creators shape their presence and highlight their work on Search,” Google added.
