At the end of March, Mozilla integrated a free built-in VPN service into its web browser, Firefox.
The service offers users 50GB of data every month. IP address protection is paused until the next cycle when users reach their monthly limit. People who need more data will need to subscribe to Mozilla VPN.
“Protecting privacy online is an ongoing effort. As the web evolves, new technologies create both opportunities and challenges for keeping personal information safe. By continuing to build these protections into Firefox, we aim to make the web safer, more transparent, and more respectful of the people who use it,” Mozilla said at the time of release.
Thanks to Firefox 151, the latest version of Mozilla’s web browser, users will have more control over their online privacy.
For starters, users can now select the location of their VPN server. Unfortunately, region selection is currently limited to users in Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
“Whether you want to view local news, shop regionally, or see how content appears in another country, location selection gives you more control over where your connection appears from online,” Mozilla promises.
By default, Firefox selects the location closest to the user, but users can switch locations at any time. More locations will be added in the future.
Furthermore, Firefox is bringing AI controls to Android and iOS. Depending on your device and region, available controls include features like translations, voice search, and Shake to Summarize. These AI features can be enabled or disabled whenever a user wants.
Lastly, Mozilla has added a one-click reset for its Private Browsing feature in Firefox 151. Tapping the new flame-shaped “Clear Private Session” button located to the right of the address bar instantly clears a user’s current private session, deleting their cookies, browsing history, logins, and other session data from their device automatically.
