Elon Musk says his Cybertrucks can withstand an apocalypse, but it got outsmarted by a couple of dogs.
Cybertruck users have reported yet another security loophole in Tesla’s electric vehicle, this time affecting the owner's pets.
Cybertrucks, like other Tesla vehicles, have a special Dog Mode installed in their interface. This mode allows pet owners to leave their animals inside the car with controlled air temperature.
There is a message on the car’s screen displaying the temperature inside and the message that the owner is coming back soon, in case any passers-by become worried about the Cybertruck user’s pet.
The Mode also deactivates all electronics to prevent accidents or escapes if a dog inadvertently steps on the window button—at least, that's what the manual says.
One Cybertruck owner named John detailed on the community forum how his dogs managed to escape from the vehicle while he was having breakfast at a restaurant.
“I got an alert on my phone that the truck door opened. One of the dogs stepped on the door button, and the dogs were able to push the door open and, yep, went running,” he wrote. “ Did get help recovering the dogs, but what a joke.”
This case is not the only one circulating the internet. Another user named Wolfgram told a similar story on the community forum, but this time about cats that exploited the Cybertruck’s interface.
“We travel with multiple cats. They ride in carriers but at night we allow them to roam in the Cybertruck on Pet Mode. Problem is they can roll down windows and open doors!” user wrote.
Apparently, perfectly flat switches can be easily pressed when the cats walk and jump on the door armrest. According to the pet owner, while the rear doors can be locked with a child lock, the front doors remain active, even when the vehicle is locked.
“I need a flat plastic piece that will cover the switches that tuck under the door trim to keep the cats from opening them by accident. Anyone got a 3-D printer that can help?” wrote a disappointed user. “Maybe Tesla will do a lockout for all the switches at some point, but probably unlikely.”
Vehicle amidst numerous controversies
Since deliveries of the Cybertruck started late last year, the vehicle has been the subject of recalls and contraversy.
The most infamous Cybertruck moment occurred when Elon attempted to showcase the strength of its windows, only to shatter two of them immediately. The company had to recall thousands of Cybertrucks due to major design faults like faulty accelerator pedals.
Musk previously claimed that the Tesla Cybertruck would one day function as a boat, and one Cybertruck user in Slovakia instantly proved him wrong.
Another scenario that questions Musk’s claims about the durability of the EV showed that the Cybertruck isn’t “apocalypse proof,” as it’s seemingly no match for the Mongolian desert.
All while Cybertruck owners challenge their phalanges by trapping their fingers inside Tesla Cybertruck frunks.
