Apple’s "Surprise and Shine" event did surprise people, but maybe not in the way it intended to.
Apple has revealed its latest devices and what to expect from the new software update, iOS 27.
The highlight of the evening was the debut of Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo.
Its release was followed by multiple speculations, including its price. The majority expected the smartphone to be rather expensive, reaching the $2,000 price tag.
The company proved the predictions to be correct, with the device also setting a record for the priciest mass-market smartphone, with the highest-configuration iPhone Duo costing $3,200, according to Bloomberg.
Nevertheless, the device’s price wasn’t the only surprising factor.
Since it’s the company’s first foldable, users were curious about its design and size. That’s why the company’s official promotional image of iPhone Duo didn’t go unnoticed.
“Yeah, I don't know if I will buy this, Apple,” wrote Christopher Fryant, a 2D and 3D digital artist on X, including an image of a hand holding the iPhone Duo, and the same hand without a phone, but with extremely long fingers.
The comical comparison suggests the image may have been photoshopped.
Promotion gone wrong?
The X post, which has already racked up more than 5 million views, sparked an online discussion, with many making fun of the iPhone Duo ad.
“Maybe humans are not the target market of the product,” wrote one user, with others also calling it a “Slender Man” or “alien” phone.
“Bro needs an extra pair of knuckles just to reach the left top corner,” added another netizen.
“Comes with a free finger extender,” joked another user.

Some X users tried to explain how the image was created.
“When you’re learning how to draw, there is this thing about hands, they are freaking weird and ugly, pretty sure that the hand is real and the phone is just a dummy brick as a placeholder to edit on top,” explained a user.
“That's why you don't let AI do your work for you,” added another netizen, hinting that perhaps the image was created with the help of AI.
When it comes to the iPhone Duo's actual specifications, it has a 5.4‑inch display when closed and a 7.6‑inch display when open. The smartphone with its passport-like display is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The smartphone will be available for purchase starting October 23rd.
