After the Android Show, what is there to announce during this year’s Google developer conference?
Google I/O is one of the company’s main annual events. This year, the developer conference is scheduled for May 20th-21st in Mountain View, California. Users can also watch a live stream, with Google hitting off with its main keynote on May 20th, from 10 a.m. PDT (1 p.m. EDT, 6 p.m. BST).
Android updates hit before Google I/O’25
A week before Google’s annual developer conference, the company separately announced its operating system-related updates on The Android Show: I/O Edition.
During this presentation, the company shared that Android 16 will include more personalized design choices with Material 3 Expressive, which allows users to personalize their device interface (UI) with colors, fonts, animations, and more.
Google presented its features regarding its AI assistant, Gemini, such as live camera and screen sharing, which allow users to ask the AI questions about things they see in the real world.
The company also announced that Gemini will be available on more devices, such as TVs, watches, and cars.

Android 16 updates also include safety and security improvements with features such as “Advanced Protection,” which protects the device’s USB port from being used to access personal data.
During the Android Show, Nothing’s CEO Carl Pei announced the release of the company’s first flagship smartphone, Nothing Phone 3, expected to cost around £800 ($1,070).
What to expect at Google I/O 2025?
Considering how much Google is betting on AI, it’s likely that the presentation will include a portion of announcements related to Gemini and its updates.
It’s expected that the company will provide more information on the Gemini 2.5 Pro version, as the AI is already known to be featured in more Google products.
When it comes to XR technology, its believed that Google could share more details about its smart glasses.
Project Moohan, the product of a collaboration between Google and Samsung, was spotted in the background during one of the Android Show presentations, raising suspicion that users could get more updates on the headset. It was previously reported that the device is expected to be launched in the middle of this year.

Other AI-related announcements could also include Project Astra, an advanced type of artificial intelligence, which can respond to any query in real time through voice, video, and more.
When it comes to the news in the hardware department, it’s not likely that the company will introduce its new Pixel smartphones or tablets as the event is more focused on software development.
